Next time, try a little tact with your co-worker. I’m going out on a limb here and guess that there is a little more history here between the 2 of you. Maybe I’m wrong, but I bet you’ve been a little surly with her before. Am I right?

Look, we all make mistakes when dealing with people at work (or in general). Don’t play the victim here with the “whoa is me to be a man in this PC world”. Try to see it from her perspective and how you would react given the roles being reversed. Figure out how you could have handled it differently. Learn from the experience and put it behind you. Or don’t, and continue to have difficulties with your co-workers.

I’m not taking sides here, I’m just sharing what I’ve learned in 20 years of working in the real world.

This is way too sensible. DB, you’re officially on “competence probation.”

Ah, am I wrong? Don’t half the people (not to be taken literally) run around with lawsuits and complaints about the dumbest shit you’ve ever heard? “Hey, I’m fat - lets sue Mcdonalds.”

And btw, the US controls ALL of my viewing, from movies to tv and internet - so ya - I think I have a pretty good idea.

And lastly I’m from South Africa and I’m not english.

Agreed. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

ROTFL…

it is not possible

Yeah, I guess you do know, because everything you see in the movies and on tv is 100% really the way it is in America. At least our lawyers don’t have to wear ill-fitting powdered wigs.

And how does the U.S. control what you see on the internet?

Unfortunately it is part of the American Way. We have far too many lawyers.

I wouldn’t consider it sexist. I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless she is a subordinate.

Me Solomon Grundy

The fact is you acted like a dickhead by offering her up to take it up with someone…and you extended that to say “Oprah”…dude you were asking for her to do something about you.

She did.

Umm, compared to other countries the US is ridiculously lawsuit happy. People over here sue for stuff that got shrugged off back in South Africa.

Good constructive argument there allnatural.

The previous poster who stated that they had no case because you are not her superior, is wrong. Let me tell you just how stupid this can get:

At a agency conference a couple of years ago, one of my male co-workers was intoxicated and started telling me about his fantasies and wound up grabbing my ass. Now, I know this guy relatively well, and he is a bit of a screw up and usually behaves in this manner when drunk. So he was no threat to me and I just laughed it off and walked away. I made the mistake of laughingly telling my supervisor, with whom I have a great relationship, about it later that night. Although he was intoxicated also, his demeanor completely changed and he told me he would have to do something about it. I told him repeatedly, that it was not an issue, I did not feel sexually harassed or threatened.

To make a long story short, it was taken completely out of my hands. Although I never filed a complaint and did my best to try to stop the whole thing, it escalated significantly and this guy could have lost his job. EEO called me last, after they talked to everyone else (a month later). I told EEO the only people that were making the workplace uncomfortable for me were them and their witch hunt.
This experience was a shining example of management circling the wagons to cover their asses. It did not matter how I, “the victim”, felt about the event. They had to discipline this guy in case it happed again. They didn’t want someone asking why management never did anything about it.
So my point is that she may not have complained, it may have been taken out of her hands.

The real world is so…unreal.

PC is a very dangerous thing.

I heard a news report about a person who was teaching racial diversity and used M&M’s as an example, showing that while they are all different colors on the outside, they are all the same on the inside.

Well somebody got upset at being referred to as an “M&M”, complained, and the racial sensitivity trainer lost his job because of lack of racial sensitivity.

I have personally experienced the effects of having a person use sexual harassment rules to get revenge for a relatively minor event. (Which she could not have complained about because it would have actually gotten her into trouble.)

I was immediately fired, and told no matter what, I would never be able to get my job again. Then I was allowed to give my side of the story.

Interestingly they tried to keep me from getting unemployment benefits, and lost, and later had to fire the person who got me into trouble for punching another coworker.

As I always say, PC would have made Joseph Goebbels proud.
