January 30, 2012 Lower / Heavy WHARGARBL 500 lbs. deadlift

Deadlift: 4103 4403 4802 NEW PR!! 5001 NEW PR!!
Hanging Power Cleans: 1853 1952-exhausted 135*8
28kg mb swings - double mini-banded: 25, 25

WHARGARBL. Figured I’d break my PR today since I got 475 last week for a double breaking old pr by one rep. I had intended to take a vid when I broke 500, but it came up a bit faster than I anticipated. I’m back up to 199 lbs and wanted to get 500 before I hit 200 lbs, so I just went for it. I figured screw it, I’ll get 500. Locked that sucker out, growled a victorious “FUCK YEAH” and dropped the weight on the floor sending out a shockwave through the gym that vaporized any curlbro in a 2 mile radius. Felt fucking awesome. I’m working up to reps at 500, I’ll make a video then. Power cleans after I had no hip drive left, so I dropped the weight and just put in some reps. Finished my posterior chain beat down with an old favorite, mini-banded KB swings.

Just wanted to say that your progress over the years has been nothing short of completely badass.

Also, what are your goals? It seems like you’re not really training for hypertrophy so much as strength…? Planning on doing a powerlifting meet or something like that?

Congratulations on your BIG deadlift. That’s amazing. And you’ve made some physique progress too. On fire! Glad to see it.

Hope you are still enjoying work and racking up hours for your license. Just to compare, to keep my license current in CA I have to spend about 6 days per year and about $1000 on continuing education. That includes the law and ethics course that they make us take AGAIN, every single year. Right now my license is on inactive status so I don’t have to do it this year.

Hey, I am going to teach a psychology course to some gifted junior high and high school kids this summer. This will be fun, right? I think it’s mostly personality stuff, Myers Briggs, get to know yourself sort of thing.

Thanks bro! sorry for the delayed response, been busy.

I aim for strength, if I get muscle along the way, fabulous. Not sure about a lifting meet, I weigh too much to be honest. There’s probably people in the 160 class lifting what I do. I honestly just want to be in as good a shape as an NFL defensive back really.

That law & ethics requirement sounds brutal…Kids like themselves more than anything else, so anything they can relate back to themselves should go over well. I have a new job, I’ve moved up to manager, with another company, but am still racking up LMHC hours. So all is well. Thanks for dropping by!

January 31, 2012 Upper / Heavy

Bench Press: 2503 2703 2803 2902 3003
Pullups: 55
5 554 554 553 553
Push Press: 1953 2103 225*2
Dips: 9, 10

Great session, no real drop off from setting the new DL pr the day before. Pullups are done with the weight between my feet since the new weight belt hasn’t arrived yet. Push press went well, and I had enough energy at the end to do some dips.

February 2, 2012 Lower / Light

Squats: 2255 2555 2755 2905 3055
Hanging Power Snatches: 135
3 1353 1453 1553 1355
Romanian Deadlifts: 3155 3655 385*5

Returned to squatting, really focused on activating my hamstrings, and it appears to have worked well. Snatches went well, and more Romanians to hammer on the hamstrings. Great session.

Just flipped through the log and your progress is pretty amazing. Awesome job. Will be following for sure.

Incline Bench Press: 2654 2305 2305
Neutral Grip Pullups / Cable Flye S.S.: BW
14/4510 BW8/456 BW6 / 358
Standing Press: 140
5 1605 1703

Ran in to Matt, he was doing flyes so I jumped in and turned it into a super set with the pullups. Good session, good power on the standing press, happy about that.

Thanks! Been bulking so the progress comes pretty fast. Is that you in your avatar?

February 5, 2012 Conditioning

34.5" Plyo Box Jumps: 15
34.5" Seated Plyo Box Jumps: 15
Plyo Bench Clap Pushups: 5, 5, 5
Battling Ropes: 65, 50, 50

Good stuff, the usual.

February 6, 2012 Lower / Heavy

Deadlifts: 4103 4403 4802
Hanging Power Cleans: 185
3 1953 2051
Front Squats: 2253 2453
Lying Leg Curl: 9010 11010
PUPP: 1:30

No real hangover from the max pull last week. I was really super energized for this. First day at new job so I had the pound of rice about an hour before this and was peaking. Those first 8 sets were done in about 16 minutes, which is about twice as fast as I’d usually do them in. More emphasis on hamstrings with the leg curls.

SOLID dude…good job

I give up. How does one focus on ‘activating the hamstringz’ I feel like the whole concept is beyond my comprehension. Sometimes I’m dumb.

Accipiter - Congrats on the new job. Glad you are enjoying it.

Hallowed - About hamstrings.

I can do RDLs and feel them mostly in my low back.
I can do Hypers and mostly feel them in my bottom.

I think my hamstrings are super inactive, and that’s why my DL isn’t moving. I’m trying assisted GHRs again. I use the cable pull down bench to hook my legs under, and then put a stool in front of it for the assist. I think it’s better than the ham curl machine or the cable kick backs for making me use my hammies.

Yesterday was my squat day which is supposed to be quad focused with my DL day being posterior chain on all accessory… and today my ass is sore. DUNNO!
My hams and glutes are like their own little universe of strange.

My DL is all ass & back, but my squat lagged behind on account of not being able to activate my hamstrings well. When I box squatted I really focused on clenching them as I descended and then exploded off the box. It carried over to my squatting last week. It doesn’t exactly feel esier to squat, but I moved bigger weights despite not squatting traditionally for 4 weeks.
