Are you serious? The question is why bother. It’s both a scientific and social imperative to know the rate of change and to mitigate it as much as possible. This is the crux of the issue, singularly we all feel a sense of hopelessness, but collectively it may make impetus for positive changes in people’s attitudes towards this problem
