There is a possibility of attempted interuptions in the Sotomayor Hearings. Gunshots have been confirmed on Capitol Hill…
The hearings are still going on, the shooting had no effect on them.
The hearings are suspended for now, it looks like it was unrelated… First reports are routine traffic stop, fleeing perp and shootout, cop hit, but alive, perp dead.

Actually, all racism bothers me. It’s just that some racism is politically correct. Which raises as similar question for my “liberal” friends: How is it that that the only racism that is still okay is reverse racism?

So you assume then that her scores, while good, were worse than those of white males?
No. But I’ve seen too many white teens, standing in disbelief, while they hear of minority students in THE SAME CLASS get into schools (often with huge rides) while they were passed over. No problem except the white teen would often have a higher ACT, higher GPA, captain of a sports team, while the minority student went home to play video games.
You would be truly truly shocked at how often this happens.
Somewhere, in our country, is someone who DIDN’T get into the schools that Sotomajor did. That person is better, smarter, and more ambitious. But their dream got crushed by a terrible idea…the idea of giving the undeserved.
No I wouldn’t be shocked, but how do you know that there were more qualified students than her? The only thing that you base that on is her gender and ethnicity.
And if they are so much better, how is not getting into a certain university going to crush their dreams? It’s called rejection. Get used to it. Life isn’t always fair, and the best person doesn’t always win. I guess that ambitious person of superior intellect is now living under a bridge due to having their dream crushed and plotting revenge against Sotomayor.
She said so herself. If she had not bumped someone else, because of AA, she’d not be where she is now.
The problem with AA is that it loads up places with minorities who then won’t even interview any white males. Happened at the university where my wife teaches. Hell, she might have gotten her job because of that, for all I know. The minority faculty members said (to the particular dept head) that they were ‘uncomfortable’ around white males.
I can understand that cause at least two of the women in that department are lesbos.

Funny, my brother, a white male, teaches at a university and doesn’t seam to have a problem.

‘Seam’? Does he teach knitting? (Just kidding!)
Ask him for the inside scoop. Of course, is he very liberal?
Once while adjuncting where my wife works, I saw a memo from the department head that the primary consideration for a new hire for a full-time job was ‘female’. A man could have a Phd from Cambridge, but be out of luck.

As I see it, that’s one of the most blatantly racist things I’ve ever read on this forum.
How is it racist, which part? Or just because I agree with her does it make me racist? She is a wise Latina is she not? So, what does that say about wise Latin’s if that is her opinion of them, especially with her experience.
It is blatantly racist because you seem to think that Latinos as a whole don’t care about anything other than getting pregnant.
Kind of funny, because the ones that I know are working their asses off day and night to try and get their kids to go to college, and are pretty fuckin strict with their kids as well.
You don’t speak for that race, I am part of their ‘race,’ good one, or what they’re concerned for. You can barely managed to speak for yourself, as far as your babblings on the other thread- so you got balls coming on here and talking shit about Hispanic women.[/quote]
Did you really not read what I said…I guess not. So, just because I have not slept in over 50 hours I will be a complete dick about this. Stop having a fucking temper tantrum like a knee jerkin five year old. I agree with her statement the first time, dick wad, not the one you read under the OP.
And for your information, I can say whatever the fuck I want. I deal with those fuckers all the time. I do not give a damn about the grown ups you dip shit, she is not talking to grown ass people who already know they are going to be a working stiff for the rest of their lives. I am talking about these little girls running around my fucking town looking to score a fucking chollo and pop out a few of his kids. I never said their ass was doing anything wrong either, but I sure do not want some illiterate dumb ass thinking they can determine my fucking cases.

I thought the testimony of the New Haven Firefighters was moving. Both Frank Ricci and the 1 Latino firefighter who passed the exam, Ben Vargas, testified and you could see the emotion these guys had.
Max:
I watched most of the hearings yesterday because I was off work; but I missed the Firefighters today. (I guess I’ll have to see the outakes on the news).
What was the essense of what they had to say?

First up was Frank Ricci. He briefly spoke about his desire to progress in his career, and how hard he studied while taking a toll on his family to make sure he could pass this test. How he had to work through his dyslexia so he could pass with the help of tutors. He spoke about how firefighters don’t get do-overs. No such thing as appeals or recesses. They have to make the best decisions in crucial moments which can decide life and death. He then went on to talk about how when he did pass, he was not granted the promotion because others didn’t pass the same test. He also touched on how frustrating it was, that when he did pursue this with legal action, his end result was summed up in 1 paragraph, which stated that he didn’t provide supportive evidence of his claim.
Then Ben Vargas spoke after. He mentioned his Latin background, and expressed his pride to see another Latino to be nominated for such a prestigious position. He was not able to hide his emotion nearly as well as Ricci did. From his demeanor, he seemed to be fighting to control some emotion as he spoke. He talked about how he had pictures of his family with him, as he spoke of how hard he studied and prepared for the exam. How he went to a motel room so he could study on occasion, all the while knowing that this promotion would inevitably help provide a better living for his family.
I am sure you will see clips on the news, but it was pretty touching. You could tell these guys took it very personally.

The white Male did what every male of every human race did for millions of years. We hunted, conquered, evolved intellectually and technologically. The white Male is hated because he did it better and fasted then anyone. But even that is not true. It was simply his time to dominate. Rest assured that if it wasn’t the white man, it would have been the Asians or Persians etc etc… And the White man although vilified for being in power has been the best ruler the world ever had.
In which other time were such strides made to unify the whole world? Medicine? Progress? Democracy and equality for people via the creation of America! What about the Ending of all world wide Slavery? A trade started by other races and permanently ENDED by the loathsome white man. What about the idealism of everyone being equel? Extending education to everyone?
We have been given so many gifts. The cell phone, the internet, space exploration, medicine. Progress people.
The white man may have been a conqueror in the past where it was historically called for. All human acted that way, there were no exceptions. Watch the movie “Apocalypto” with the native Indians and their peaceful ways, ways that we idolize today. But the reality was grim.
Fact is that as it is currently the white man civilized the world. You may hate me for saying it, but i’m tired of always feeling put down as a white male in America. The Irony is that non white people ( minorities ) can live in a country we created and we gave them the right to express and practice racism against us. We did it because it is the right thing to allow every human to express themselves. Through this expression we can communicate and vent. We can evolve and truly all become a part of the human race.
Show me a country that will allow that the white man allows in his countries. NOT gonna happen.
Every race had their time in history when they were the absolute rulers.
BTW: does this make me racist? Because why is it that every race can be proud of associating with their race and call it their culture? But the white man being proud of being of his culture and wanting to nurture it is a racist in some form and actively discouraged. Fact.
And incidentally i agree with her when she says people of different races will have a different outlook on things and may arrive at slightly different conclusions. At first i was put off, but then asked myself what if she was white and Irish and said that. Would Irish people be upset? Probably not.
I know that our race, or you can say Genetics, give us different abilities and perspectives. Her perspective as a Latina do give her a different angle to see things from.
I mean, in all seriousness, the supreme court rules on feelings and interpretations anyway. It’s not like that disposition of hers will change fundamentally how the court is run. It is what it is. Judge Clarence Thomas was grilled and testified against for bringing his pubic hair to his secretary. A known pervert. So what, noone is perfect. Were all human, we need to stop looking upto other humans for their high minded pious purity. It does not exist.
Well maybe with mother Theresa or our last Pope ![]()

I have to disagree with you here. This was not “the white man” who dominated in this situation, but more so Frank Ricci, Ben Vargas, and the other firefighters who passed the test. Frank Ricci has dyslexia, and HE sought out a tutor on his own dime to help him pass the test. There have plenty of people with learning disabilities who give up and blame their disability for lack of progression. But not Frank. He wanted it so bad, he got a tutor, and made it happen for him.
This should not have been a black, white, or Latino issue, even if the court made it one. Ben Vargas also took actions on his own accord to make it happen for him. And for those who failed the test, maybe they took action on their own too, I don’t know. But at the end of the day, if I am in a burning building and need help, I want the guy who passed the test to come get me.
Those hearings were funny, the way the republicans started this off they got to know her no better. They should have started off acting objective
On another note how does the White American male expect any minority to get past there prejudice when the white male can not get past his own. We white men have been so put upon.
