A New Look at Racism

The daughter calling out the mom on her bottled up sexual thoughts about Italians was pretty damn funny.

I’ve never heard someone act like that towards Italians outside of a movie or joking around. And as was said earlier, imagine if it was a Puerto Rican, Mexican or Black, guy.

I grew up roman catholic in Jersey

I dated a girl from Israel during high school. She had to lie to her Mother in order for us to date. She said my Mom was a jew and my Dad a catholic and they wanted me to decide my religion. That was the only way I was allowed to see her and even be allowed in their home.

Secondly, I had a best friend from birth to high school. He is jewish. All of his male jewish friends hated me becasue I was catholic. Plus they hated the fact that I dated most of their female friends who were jewish.

So true man. If it was a black guy Jesse Jackson and 4 million men would be marching up and down in front of the dudes house. Ha

Thats not quite what I was trying to get at…

Why did that remind me of Goodfellas only the dad was a Jewish version of Joe Pesci.

Work won’t alow the link, however I understand the flow of the conversation here and I’ll tell ya, I really wasn’t aware of racism until it finally hit me on the head at 9 years old. I went to a french school as a kid and in the middle of the year I was suddenly switched to an English school, I couldn’t speak English. Man, kids are cruel, they were making fun of me and I had no idea what the fuck they were saying. I picked up the language quickly and later another kid who I felt was an outsider joined our school, he was black.

He was the only black kid in school, I made friends with him and we grew close. One day I went over to his place to play, we were 10 years old. The next day he said he couldn’t hang around with me anymore, I asked why? His dad told him if he was seen with me he would kick his ass. This upset me, I didn’t understand why so I asked my father why. He said because I was white and that is how things are around here. I was appalled.

As a kid growing up, my parents never said anything bad about people of other ethnicities, in fact it wasn’t until I was in my teens that I saw the bigoted side of my father, to the point I called him Archie Bunker, more so when I dated women of other nationalities. Oh man, did that upset him, one day he hit me with an alluminum basball bat across my back becasue I was going out with a black girl. This did not deter me, my saying at the time, was “Why limit my chances with women to one race, that’s stupid and hey go ahead if you want, more for me”

Anyway I think because of this my dad has since mellowed out, all the beatings I took becasue of this was worth it, my father is now a proponent of diversity, this really is a 180 for him and I’m proud to say it, his only problem is the poilitics behind the hiring etc., however he does not blame anyone taking advantage of this, he’d do the same. He has even said “We have families to feed, if I was black and needed to feed my family and a job was given to me because of my race so be it, my family feeds, it may not be right, well then fight the politics.” Today I am married to a white lady, just met the person that rocked my world and all, my kids have been taught about racism and bigotry, these values are easier to teach than all the hating out there.

Like I tell my kids, a person is a jerk because they are jerks by the actions they take or the shit they say, not because of the colour of their skin.

Exactly, the guy was that crazy.

You want difficult?

Try being a Sicilian Catholic, dating girls in a state that is 80% Mormon.

Parents don’t like me too much…

This is so fuckin pathetic! Can you spell S-T-A-G-E-D!
Bad radio that can even be original, they have to make this shit up.
I swear there are people out there if they cannot find something racist that will excuse them from taking responsibility for their lives, they have to make this crap up.
Pathetic.

I was just going to say that I really doubt this was real.

I’m pretty sure after flipping out like that, the dad wouldn’t just be like, “Oh, ya got me. Har har.”

Nice post Dmanor.

The think that would make me think it was staged was the daughter referring to what her mother had said sexually about Italians.
