A Memes Only Thread

This is why I stay away from sushi and sashimi.

No way I’m going to come close to replicating something that takes decades of training to master

after experiencing the authentic thing in Japan last year there is no way I would ever do it justice - so I avoid and leave to the professionals.

I don’t mind wrecking an art form.

Lets do it!

The secret is not to try to replicate fancy sushi or Japanese fatty tuna, but to buy small quantities of available good fish (in Canada, fresh salmon, cut thin, “torch” with sesame oil and butane lighter if desired) and scatter it on sushi rice, with wasabi and sesame seeds. You could even mix plain rice with soy sauce and wasabi mayonnaise to get good flavoured rice with no fuss.

Chirashi (scattered sushi) is very easy and tasty. Great sushi flavour, no skill needed, as easy or complicated or full of vegetables as you want to make it. Not Tokyo, but not far off, also way better than the Costco or preprepared stuff.

I used to teach sushi classes, and I had a batchelor party that went fishing and brought back their salmon and wanted a sushi class.

They invented the “man roll” which was beef, salmon, siracha, hoisin, and green onions.

There was a lot of booze.

I was thinking about this this morning. It feels that liberals should be using conservative tacticts for their goals, and conservatives should use liberal tactics for their goals.

I don’t know if just tossing each other in jail over NDAs is the best path forward but it would be nice to see limitations on special interest groups.

Which begs the question, why isn’t a 3rd party candidate moderate? No one (except lunatics) are excited about Biden or trump, so a decent moderate candidate would have a REAL shot. Instead we get a brainworm-having conspiracy theorist as the 3rd party candidate (who has the literal worst VP possible). Goddamnit.

These are terrrible memes

I think either side lines up with party lines pretty closely, and the preferred candidate embodies the bigger picture. We’ve also managed to roll belief systems in to our political process despite forefather efforts to prevent such a thing and you can look at Israel/Palestine over thousands of years to see how that works out.

I think you’d be surprised how many people support Trump who are actually very normal. If you block all the media noise and focus on his actual presidency, he did a great job objectively. But, nobody votes objectively.

Booooo…boooo get off the stage!

one of my favourite profs here never makes eye contact (he’s american), speaks inaudibly with a slight stutter and refused to turn on his camera when we had virtual classes.

Somehow, this same guy teaches MBA classes… and has a high rating from them. Not sure how that works, but it does

Oh, fuck this. It’s parents inviting themselves who don’t understand what the fuck has changed in the world since they worked. They are helicopter parents who want to control their children, it’s not weak kids who need handholding.

My mom got offended when I rejected her suggestion to bring a home cooked meal to a job interview at a restaurant to demonstrate my skills. How fucking retarded would that look?

My wife works for a job placement company, and generations change, because the people leaving need to go.

Eye contact is a very western cultural thing. And it’s almost impossible for some folks who are gifted engineers/scientists/whatever’s who are the autism spectrum.

The one that blows my mind about this and I would like to see more stats on is the definition of “unreasonable compensation”. Most companies pay jack crap and don’t list expected salary ranges on their job listings.

There’s some pretty interesting research on this. Disclosure of salary ranges isnt universally beneficial because it can actually facilitate collusion

I have gotten to the point in my professional career if they don’t list a range (even if it’s an utterly ridiculous spread) I don’t apply. Don’t waste my time and energy if you are going to low ball the crap out of me. May have worked when I was fresh out of school but I know my abilities now.
