A guy I went to college with was a pretty good weight lifter. It was clear he lifted. I asked him how much he clean and jerked. He said 175. I was like that’s not that impressive. He was like it’s over double bodyweight. I was like what? He was like “175 kilos not pounds”.

Obviously intentional, but a pretty good flex.

I had a coworker tell me that my squat was really heavy (probably like 365 for less than 8 reps at the time), then he asked what my max was. I said “about 405”.

He went on to say “yeah, but what do you leg press? I bet i leg press more than you.”

He was an interesting guy lol

That’s like, “I bet I leg curl way more than you.”

I remember back when I was like 14 and went to the gym I saw the older highschool guys loading up the bar and doing shrugs. Being that young I thought it was cool and impressive. I went home and was talking to my father and telling him how strong these guys were doing shrugs. He said, “yeah, everyone looks strong when the bar only has to move an inch.” Nothing like some dad wisdom to make you reflect.

I was taught by my uncle (who taught me how to lift) that if you don’t hold the shrug for at least “2 potatoes” at the top it doesn’t count.
