A Matter of Ethics...

chinadoll I know what you are saying however I am not particularly aware of the laws/system in the USA, which also probably varies from state to state.

The issue here is that

A. it is perfectly possible that he really isn’t a danger to anyone anymore

or

B. the system has flopped and there is a really dangerous fellow on the loose

And we don’t all have the details.

It is possible for example that the guys’ wife was torturing him for years, and drove him to murder and possibly, drove him insane. I doubt that is the case, but there have been cases like that, that resulted in reduced sentences (and sometimes, a “not guilty” verdict).

ANYTHING is possible.

Well since the cat is out of the bag and your dad went to the boss, and you as well… I would say “watch your back.” If you are smart enough to find out his information, it wouldn’t take much for him to track you down, your relatives, or follow you home.

If it comes down to it, you may want to track down the ex-wife’s family… I’m sure they have plenty of reason for revenge and they might be more prepared to deal with him as they probably don’t have anything else to lose.

Whether it was a crime of passion, or of blatant rage… he has already crossed the boundary and done it once… it wouldn’t take much to do it again.

As far as posting flyers… I wouldn’t, based on our legal system, I wouldn’t want to get hit with harassment or slander… which would ultimately bring his case out, but also make you look like a tool. As screwed up as it sounds, by you doing a public service to everyone around him… you would actually take away the “rights” of the harassed individual.

It’s a tough call, I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes. If I was your co-worker, sure, I’d want to know so I can keep my guard up as much as possible. But if I was in your situation, I would be as anonymous as possible, and play real dumb if asked a direct question about it from him.

Good luck,
