A Calorie is a Calorie

Well, without getting into the highly technical debate, lol, I’ll say that in my opinion, it is a complex mix of both macros and their hormonal effect that is relevant.

A simple example:

You go to a fast food outlet. You order a burger and a soft drink. OR you order the same burger and a portion of fries but NO drink. BTW, there are as many carbs on the drink as there are in the chips, for this example.

The burger ain’t so bad. The chips ain’t great, BUT, you add in the soft drink, and you mess things up IMO.

Why? Because glucose (the drink is just water and glucose) can be absorbed directly through the stomach lining, whereas the fries would need a degree of mechanical and chemical digestion before the starch can begin to affect blood clucose.

This ‘instant access’ sugar in the drink shoots insulin high, in a way that the fries (mingled with the burger as chyme) won’t. Insulin plays a stong role in fat storage.

So even though the two meals are isocaloric (for this example) and the fries also contain added fat, I would consider the drink to be a significantly worse food choice than the burger or fries.

Personally I would eat the burger only, or maybe two of them, whilst removing some of the mayo and the buns and drink some water, but that’s just me.

Bahahaha, trust me you don’t have to worry about my overall calorie intake. Ever since i started running hills, i am literally never fully satiated. My diet consists of 7-8 meals interspersed with spoonfuls of pb and glasses of milk to keep me going til the next one.
