65+ Training

2/10

dumbbell standing press w/25s, 4 x 5
dumbbell rows (both sides at same time), w/50s, 4 x 5
dumbbell bench w/65s, 4 x 5
dumbbell pullovers w/50, 4 x 5
pullups 5,4,4

Finally worked out. Haven’t yet unpacked trap bar that oddly came on a pallet.

I rejoined my old gym yesterday. I didn’t see any covid precautions in place and more importantly I was the only person there wearing a mask. I went at 4 pm and their large parking lot was all but full. They said there was not any crowd at 5 am as before, so that might be different. Nevertheless that bothers me even though I’m past the 2 week period after my second vaccination. Wife had second shot yesterday so she’s got 2 weeks to wait before resuming former activities.

I guess I’ll need to dust off the garage weights and do a workout there first. Old 50 something workout partner told me yesterday he has a good garage gym but he needed the commercial setting for motoviation even though he’s still strong as an ok.

I get it. I’m around the virus 40 hours a week. I like my home gym, but the commercial gym is also still nice because I have good friends there for years.

Jesus.

ER doctor spoke at Rotary yesterday. She said the vaccine prevents people from hospitalization and dying. She also said after full vaccination continue all precautions, including mask wearing, until herd immunity is achieved. Presenty it’s about 7%. She’s signed about l00 death certificates with covid as immediate reason for death. She watched a 24 year old hospital employee with no preexistng conditons die in 10 days. Also, she finally said 50/50 chance of recovery if ventilator is used, that her hospital sees now that a ventilator is a deadly mistake, and that if she were a ventilator candidate she would refuse and just get comfort care.

Wife is recovering from second shot on Wednesday. Fever, bed ridden, heavy sweating. We think she will be over it today.

Of my 120 employees 65 have tested positive in the past year. I currently have 50 inmates who are positive. Luckily only a couple employees have been really sick and off for a long time. I have three who have been off for months. One may never come back. My second shot was no big deal. I worked next day. I was just really tired, like I had been up all night.

Time to work in some handstands.

50 pushups seems rather wimpy now. Time for some serious work, and some motivation.

Joined a gym yesterday that enforces mask wearing. This one is loaded with machines so I’ll likely do free weights at home and machine stuff there. We’ll see.

Good luck with the new gym… we have the mask rule here in MA as well.

Drove by new gym at 5 am today. Lots of cars in parking lot. I’m working up to starting again.

Saw an INCREDIBLE exercise for growing deadlifts on Brian Alsruhe’s March 22 youtube post.

3/23 5 am all machine workout at commercial gym w/mask

bench 3 x 17 @ about 100 lbs
pec dec 3 x 17 @ about 90 lbs
cable flyes 3 x 17 @ about 80 lbs

dip machine 3 x 17 @ about 135
tricep extensions 3 x 17 @ 90 lbs
overhead cable extensions 3 x 17 @ 100 lbs

This gym is larger than a Home Depot, has more machines, exceptional free weight area, not crowded at 5 am. and about 4 miles from house. We’ll see. I still like my home setup.

AWESOME!

We both know that feeling will pass. Ebb and Flow.

I’m honestly impressed with how much stronger you’ve become in last few months.
