Awesome job @ActivitiesGuy! How did it breakdown for you?

The reps started to get hard a lot sooner than I expected although I’m using my “I ran 10 miles yesterday” excuse to partially explain that. By about rep 12 I was seriously wondering if I would be able to complete all 30. Once I got into the 20’s I knew I’d get to the finish line, but the last three or four reps had more of a grind to them than I expected.
This was a perfect forum challenge. Let’s give everyone til the end of April to complete this one, and perhaps we can post another one for the summer.
Very similar to me, 12 was a real turning point but in the 20s I knew it was doable. Only difference is I physically had to stop at 30 lol!
Just want to say thanks for including everyone. I am a 48 yo female, and pretty sure a 405 dead is not going happen, well not anytime soon ![]()
Thanks for putting up with me!
Absolutely! We spent a little time kicking this around at the start of the thread: could we come up with something that could be challenging and appropriately scaled for all, and also prove useful in training for most? So for all future forum challenges that we post, we’ll always be trying to make them as inclusive as possible. It’s not like we’re giving out prizes, haha.
Not at all @ChickenLittle, thanks for taking part!
So @MaazerSmiit has added to the confusion at the top of the pile by also getting 11 reps. So it’s currently a 3-way tie with @T3hPwnisher and @littlesleeper!
Who’s going to step up and win this thing??
So I gave this a go today.
Went the full 30 with 185kg/407lbs, hitting 11 on the final set. Hook grip and belt for every set but the last one, where I used straps too. Then died.
Something something touch and go/sumo is cheating/technically 407lbs ![]()
@littlesleeper that final rep was brilliant haha!
Cough @flipcollar Cough @Alpha Cough
I haven’t been doing any rep work recently, as my next to shows just have max deadlift events. I’ll try to get to this soon.
Also, if Alpha jumps in, he kills us all. I should be able to do about what pwnisher did. I can’t touch Alpha’s strength.
Really enjoying the thread! My biggest DL is 235 x 5 (today, w/BW 150), so I won’t be repping 405 anytime soon. But EMOTM singles at 315 by early May is something to shoot for!
Did this today with 345lb (~2xbw). Did this with chalk.
Got to 16 reps before a torn shin stopped me. Definitely could have done more.
I’d be really interested in seeing if I can hit all 30 minutes once all my stupid minor tears and cuts heal up. I’ll retry this in June.
It was interesting. Got tedious near the 14 minute mark but it seems like a great way to get volume in with moderately heavy weights.
It’s an entirely new feeling (for me) doing multiple singles at a relatively high load. Most programs don’t have you do 15-30 reps with a near maximal load.
It’s a great experience! Nice work!
So I’m certainly not going to pretend that this is the optimal approach or that my qualifications supersede those of more accomplished lifters, but for “guys that want to build a decent level of strength with minimal equipment and relatively modest time investment” - I built my way to a 500 deadlift last summer in about 18 months of dedicated training, most of which was just deadlift singles in the 315-405 range. I have since switched to a better gym and diversified, but remain convinced that if I’m ever in a situation with limited equipment and/or time to train, I will retain a respectable level of strength by pulling 10-12 EMOM singles at 315-405, three to five times per week, even if I can’t do anything else.
I’m going to try the Optimum Nutrition Challenge of AMRAP in a minute on Deadlift today… Hopefully. It’s not looking like I’ll be getting my workout in during my lunch break today…or getting a lunch break.
I got 37 reps. I started at a methodical pace and sped up a bit towards the end. I can do better. I thought 60 seconds would be longer than it actually was. Video posted to my log.
I got 10 on the final set for a total of 39 reps. Touch and go with 405 on a Texas deadlift bar. I used chalk and toe shoes, but no nose tork. I’ll upload video in the next few days.
Great challenge!
Awesome! If there would have been dander involved, you could have been the tie breaker!
So I thought I’d give it another go with 315. Got all 29 EMOM then finished final set with 7. Belt and mixed grip. Wish I would invest in some chalk cuz my hands and the bar were so sweaty by the end of it, honestly felt like I could have easily got 10-12 if my grip didn’t slip
Great stuff @twojarslave and @lord_humongous! I’ve updated the OP with your results.
