Ridiculous.

The book of “Law and Order” is called Constitution.

Holy shit, I feel like i’m in PWI.

When I used to read the Bible I liked the Good News version, especially because of the wonderful and simple illustrations.

From where is that? I have never seen that before.

The Book Of Nada. Chapter IV, Verse XVI:

" And Nada sayeth unto the usurpers ‘I hath come here to strike the ass of these heathens and masticate sap from the chicle tree…alas, I am without any sap from the chicle tree’
Nada, Ch IV, ver. XVI

Nards.

Effin’ genius!

Nice one.

I agree with Push on starting at Genesis. I also understand for someone who is struggling with getting back into reading the Bible that Genesis can seem “boring” because most of us know Genesis backwards and forwards. I have always enjoyed Proverbs, and Job. When you start feeling apathetic about things and weak minded, flip to Job and start reading. It has always helped me realize how blessed i am, and just in that moment of weakness i was being selfish.

I hope your reading goes great.

How much does it cost for them to leave?

The only problem I have with reading any translation of the bible or any spiritual text with a study guide or a teacher/preacher/priest is you already have to deal with the translated versions bias now with a study guide or 3rd party you have to deal with them clouding your mind even more.

Read the book cover to cover what harm could it do. Hell even the people in this thread saying you should only read the new testament can’t argue that Jesus could quote the old testament before he was 12.

The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed.
The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.

I have made it one of my New Year’s resolutions to read my Bible more, but I’m not really sure how to get started. I’ve never really studied it by myself; it was always with somebody else leading it. I’ve read about people using something called a 365 Bible where it has a devotion/lesson for each day of the year. Has anyone ever used one?

my wife has one like that, and I really dislike it. It tries to be all cool and hip and ‘put the word into modern terms’ and it is LAME.

I am currently reading a study bible and I really like it. The ‘study’ part of it isnt really a commentary on what it means to the author, it is more of a way to connect different parts of the bible back together. A certain verse has notes on dates, topics to read more on, and citations of other similar verses or back to stories with similar themes. Granted, it does have to have some kind of bias with the ‘similar themes’, but it doesnt try to overtly drive any particular message home. It is kind of handy.

Start with the section that doesn’t contain any contradictions…

As a kid I was SENT to a Bible School (not sunday school) every day after regular school for 3 hours from the age of 12-15. My mother wanted me to become a minister. I have went cover to cover at least 3 times.

We gave each book of the bible 2 weeks of study and moved on. Genesis “In the Beinning” and end with Revelations “The grace of our lord Jesus Christ Be with you all, Amen”.

If you want to read the bible read it first then pick up study material later. You can cover the book faster than you think. No matter what translation you start with read it from page A-Z.

Agreed.

BTW, despite the advice to the contrary from many here, Genesis, the “book of beginnings”, is THE place to start a study of the Bible. All of the rest of the books are essentially useless without it. In other words, NONE of the other books really makes sense without the first one. That’s obviously the case with almost any other non-Bible book as well.

The Bible is NOT just a compilation of books. It truly is one book with one central theme - Redemption - and that theme cannot be properly understood without Genesis, especially the first 11 chapters.

Oh wow, very funny. Let me reiterate, the word “Torah” (Genesis-Numbers) means “Law” in Hebrew, those are all the biblical LAWS.
