360 vs. PS3

I’m going to wait until a while after the new one. That way I’ll be able to find out if I should buy a warranty with it.

but the guy who bought the PS3 selling it on ebay is bringing in more cash than the guy selling the retail WII’s!

If you guys were going to get a 360, would you get it for x-mas or wait until the ‘newer’ one comes out during the beginning of next year?[/quote]

I’m holding out for the new ones announced for Q1 2007.

Fan noise is a pet peeve of mine (I’ve replaced the fans in both my 1st gen Xboxes because they drove me nuts); so I’m hoping that with a smaller die, they’ll dissipate less heat and necessitate less active cooling. I’m also hoping they’ll have the reliability problems licked by then.

A company that positions a product as part of a “home entertainment center” should take steps to make sure that the product is silent. If you’ve got a high quality sound system, the last thing you want is to hear the “hum” of a fan while you’re watching the quiet part of a movie.

Of course, if a sweet-ass deal is suddenly offered out of the blue, I might snatch one up and learn to live with the warts.

Its not that loud. It helps me blow the leaves in the fall though!

Well I’m pretty anal about it. I don’t mind it too much if I’m playing a game, but when I’m watching movies or listening to music, even a very slight fan noise grates on my nerves.

It’s really doesn’t seem that loud, but then again I have mine up high on a shelf with the wireless controllers you can place the system almost anywhere you want safely.

Getting a warranty is a must also, mine covers any sort of defects because as these things become more like actual personal computers…

I’ve heard that it only gets really loud when playing a video game but is fairly quiet when playing a dvd or music. True??

I get the best of both options. My wife runs the electronics dept. at a dept. store so I bought a 360 with a 15% employee discount and when the new one comes out I will be able to exchange it.

And if the revise it again later in the year or the next, I can exchange it again.

I ordered a XBox360 yesterday, and got it with Madden 07’ for 400 bucks no taxes/shipping. Fan noise? I can live with that. If it breaks, that’s what the warranty will be for.

It’s going to be a nice XMas present for my brother and I. Can’t wait for Gears of War to come in.

100% accurate. It’s totally silent when playing a DVD and on most games it’s quiet. Games like Oblivion though, forget about it… It’s like an Apache helicopter.
