20151205 - Hockey

Refereed two league games - 2 hours

Knees were good for the first game, not so good when I got towards the end of the second.

Iced knees for 30 minutes before I left the rink.

20151206 - Hockey

League game - 1 hour.

Knees were sore during the day. Did lunges for warm ups, streacthing before game.

Knees where good during the game, I was able ot go hard. Made good passes, was where I was supposed to be. Still couldn’t put one in the net. Neither could the rest of the team.

Lost 3-1

29151209 - Hockey

Skating Lessons - 1 Hour
Scrimmage - 1 Hour

Did some things ok in the lessons,

Scrimmage was a bust, Did get an assist, a couple of good passes. Did a decent defense move against a younger, better player and got the puck from him.

Knees hurt and stiffened up during the scrimmage.

Yea, I’m still lifting. Knees are slowly improving.

I’ll take these bad shoulders over those bad knees any day. Great training despite your pain. Dave

Ha. Thanks Dave!

Just always find a way to adapt and overcome!

Saturday’s league game we played shorthanded. Two lines against a good team who had three full lines.

They went up 3-0 in the 1st period.

We tied them 3-3 in the second.

Between periods, I was used as the effort example by one of the assistant captains. I’m the oldest on the team by 14 years.

Ended up losing 5-3.

All the goals where scored by the other teams ringer player, I should have just started a fight with him and got us both ejected.

Pretty amazing all the hockey you play with bad knees! Adapt and overcome. So true. Keep it up.

Hiya KP, thanks for the visit.

My skating volume is at about a third of what I was doing last year. :frowning:

Currently I get 3-4 hours of hockey of skating in every week. Last winter, it was the norm to have 10-12 hours, with refereeing a lot of weekend games, usually 2-3 hours straight for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

My knee problems seem to be slowly disappearing. But very slowly. :frowning:

Made it through the first 531 cycle back. Yay!

Knees felt good yesterday, did an 1.5 hour scrimmage with the Wednesday night crew. Was able to be very competitive and even got a goal from hustling my ass.

I don’t know what level you referee, but that can be a tough job. The spectators can be mouthy and brutal. My son reffed his first game right before Christmas. He said it was scary to be on the ice with his face exposed and so few pads with a bunch of college kids hitting the puck at high speed.

I’m a USA Hockey Level 3 Referee. I can do everything from lining college games down.

Didn’t your son have on a half shield on his helmet?

20160117 - Hockey

Saturday - Refereeing League Hockey and then League game right after - 2 hours
Sunday - Refereeing USA Hockey 2 Youth games - 2 hours

Legs were a little sore, but this was the first time I did four hours of skating on a weekend in a long time.

The biggest problem with the kids games is that I ended up not having to skate a lot, so it was get cold, then have to skate for 30 seconds, repeat.
