Billions, duh.
I didn’t say people don’t struggle or that life isn’t hard for some people, but even those making $15/h aren’t contending with day-to-day survival like folks just 4 or 5 generations ago.
Juxtapose our poor with the poorest in parts of Asia and Africa and the differences are glaring.
Edit: I mean, there are people attacked by animals while fetching bacteria filled water in parts of the world, today. Our poor are morbidly obese with government provided cell phones.
The west has completely lost perspective.
I agree. It is a matter of perspective. Compare to most of the world, or any part of the world just a few decades ago, and things look pretty sweet for people in the US.
People mostly now focus on others around them, and forget what things were like in the past or other parts of the world.
Ya, that’s all I’m saying. Yes, things can be better and some people need help, but, at the very minimum, try and appreciate what you have that others don’t and what your ancestors struggled for.
I literally have no idea how people survive on that - especially now. I would barely be able to pay my utility bills.
I don’t think very many are independent. Maybe they live with parents, roommates, a spouse that makes some money too, or they work a lot more than 40 hrs/wk. 40 hrs/wk at $15/hr is 31,200 before getting bent over by the government. Rent is at least $1500 for a shit apartment. Simple math says that is going to be rough.
At least where I am, housing has gone up a lot the past decade. Not anything fancy either. Basic apartments are double what they were 10 years ago. My house if I bought if today would have a mortgage payment at least double what it is (I bought it about 10 years ago). Food is significantly more too. Just those two things have made things rough for the low wage earners.
I think rent is going to keep going up if the interest rates stay up. If owned housing is more expensive, renting will be also (at least in my thinking). I think the squeeze on people isn’t over.
And if they believed it was so bad to be in those circumstances then they would try and get out, but they don’t.
I know how you would survive it. You would live well within your means and work on whatever would be necessary to improve your situation.
I worked two jobs as an undergrad. One was at a supermarket because I got a discount on groceries and because it was unionized, I got insurance. The other was a job on campus that had the added perk of lowering my tuition.
No doubt. I worked 40 hours a week while taking 20+ credit hours a week as well while working out twice a day and working a second job (my business) on weekends.
People are just fucking lazy.
The end goal is to keep people from owning anything…only renting
Maybe, not too far from the truth.
Establishment gotta keep Biden from being embarrassed.
True. A stooge for industry. He used to be called the senator from MBNA.
Maybe for the upper class it is.
The national debt is nothing more than the money sent into the economy by the federal government that hasn’t been taxed back.
He is unhinged. Putting us in potential war with Russia and China.
You forgot bank bailouts.
Bringing the world to a potential WW3.
Overspending on what?
There is a group(Workers strike back) now calling for $25/hr. How long has $15/hr. been around?
No we are not, but are leaning more and more that way.
But you will throw your vote away on Trump.
