2024 Presidential Candidate Talk

@flipcollar Do you have any Democrat candidates in mind that you would consider a good option? A lot can happen in two years, but I look at the field and don’t really see any “rising stars” in their bullpen.

I thought Cory Booker was a decent candidate in 2020.

Just perception things. He seemed fairly stable. Seemed likeable compared to some of the candidates.

I don’t really know much about his policies as he didn’t make it far in the primaries.

sure, it goes both ways. I wouldn’t suggest otherwise. When a union goes on strike, they are counting on their leverage working out before the members go broke and have to cave, essentially. That dynamic just doesn’t qualify as extortion, in either direction.

I think that Mayor Pete is the best option. I think he has the most positive energy of anyone available, and I think people would actually come out to vote FOR him, as opposed to what we’ve seen in the Trump era. I think the fact that he has experience in the Biden administration is a plus, it makes him more qualified for the presidency.

He’s a good option. I like him quite a bit, he could be a very similar candidate to Pete. For whatever reason, I don’t really hear people talking about him in a serious way as a candidate, but maybe this is one that has been off my radar and shouldn’t be.

I agree with this.

I think both would be Obama like in policy.

I do think Pete being gay may hurt him as far as being electable. I don’t think it should, but elections are usually close, and some people will be turned off by that.

Cory’s issue is that in the last go around he didn’t gain much traction. Perhaps too middle of the road? That was something I liked, but middle of the road doesn’t always work in the primaries. Pete being gay may actually help him in the primaries. My thoughts are Pete would do better in primaries, but Cory better in the general.

I can never vote for him with his stance on firearms and his completely uneducated views on the subject like most on the left in politics.

That’s a great response, and exactly the sort of thing I was asking for. This tells me, at least for you, it’s nothing personal, this is simply one issue you won’t compromise on, and any politician with his views on firearms is automatically ruled out for you. If I cared more about guns, I’d probably feel the same way about him.

Where is your evidence?

Mayor Pete will have a racial problem that comes from his days as South Bend mayor. I believe this will weigh more heavily than his sexual orientation. He ultimately is an, any which way the wind blows, politician. A total dud.

Honestly, I thought he was going to be the Democrat nominee in 2020. Your assessment is pretty spot on. I think his lack of any real experience hurt him in the primary, but I can see how he’d appeal to the Dem base.

All that being said, no chance in hell I’d vote for him or any leftist. Id rather have my nuts crushed by a horse. But I think tactics wise, the Democrats would be smart to run him.

How about telling us what Mayor Pete has done to be a viable candidate

what policies has he implemented as mayor and/or secretary of transportation that would make me want to vote for him?

Well you finally got the joke, so there’s that kind of sucking.

Immature jokes aside, Mayor Pete strikes me as an exemplary modern Democrat politician, which isn’t a good thing in my opinion. He’s a cabinet level appointee because he is gay, first and foremost. If he wasn’t gay, he’d be an obscure mayor from my neck of the woods who hasn’t done much besides play the game of politics well enough to get elected mayor of a medium-sized city.

Mayor Pete hasn’t won any elections as an openly gay man. He was elected the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana while still in the closet. He won that because he is a mild-mannered, intelligent and well-spoken Hoosier who was raised Catholic, which appeals to a lot of Hoosiers in South Bend. Let’s not forget that South Bend is home to one of the nation’s most well-known Catholic Universities, Notre Dame. A lot of us who grew up in Northern Indiana will look at a Mayor Pete and see a guy who is a lot like we are, minus all of the sucking. I’m guessing I can squat a lot more than he can, too.

I don’t think Pete Buttigieg’s first electoral win as a gay man will be for President of the USA.

Same as any other candidate. His policies suck, and not just dick.

Sexuality aside, I find none of his policy or rhetoric as Transportation Secretary to stand out in any way, except for the negatives. He’s come out strong in favor of “defending trans kids”, which in practical Democrat policy terms means making sure young children are instructed in public schools that they might be, can be, and even should be members of the opposite sex. That’s a deal-breaker for me right off the bat, and you read enough of the Disney thread to know my thoughts on the subject of early-age indoctrination into left-wing gender ideology.

In simple terms, he’s just another woke Democrat who makes things worse, not better, by saying whatever will get him elected or promoted. I can’t think of any opinion or stance he’s taken that is out-of-line with modern woke progressivism. I don’t want any more modern woke progressivism, and that’s why I don’t like him.

What qualities stand out to you that makes him an appealing candidate?

Spartacus?

Cory Booker was nothing more than a pharma stooge.

Cory just didn’t come off very likable in the 2020 debates, IMO. And his Spartacus claim fell flat.

Pete did pitiful getting the black vote. Is he any better at appealing to the black community?

Bernie, though extremely old, is very likable.

I had to look up the Spartacus thing. I remember it now.

I also agree Bernie was more likeable. He had strong support from his base. The issue I see with him is that I don’t think he would do well with independents. I think he’s too far left to be a winning candidate. Maybe I’m wrong? Trump was similar to Bernie in that their bases really like them, but they are a turn off to many also. Bernie could win if he’s against an unpopular GOP candidate. I don’t think he wins against a popular one.

Not unless he’s turned straight, but then his appeal is gone with everyone.

Why did he get a pitiful response from the black community?

While I was once a big fan, he turned out to be a total cuck. After the DNC basically stole the Presidential nomination from him twice, he basically carries water for them now. And he sickeningly calls Biden a friend. The man is a criminal and a he is the author of the 94 crime bill. His policies put more minorities in prison than any legislation prior. Not to mention his total phony student loan forgiveness scheme. From the guy who made it virtually impossible to include student loans in BK. And people are surprised.

He has gained a lot of traction in the past few years, and I wouldn’t put it past the blue haired banshees to elect another old white guy, while simultaneously railing against old white guys.

Please allow me to illustrate what I mean by Bernie being “likable”. By contrast @castoli711 is “unlikable.”

I notice you didn’t refute anything I said. You just tried to be sarcastic.
