2020 - Trump Ain't Playing Games

This doesn’t actually matter, fwiw. In an American politics thread stocked with mostly Americans (and a guy who called them socialist that you both didn’t seem to touch) it would make absolute sense to use the standard American thought process.

Unless the goal is to not converse about the actual topic.

All of that is socialism? And no one thinks that medical coverage and college should be free. It’s not like doctors and professors won’t get paid.

Why would I care about someone who probably wont even make it to the primary?

So Bernie NEVER advocated for national healthcare, free college, and taxing the wealthy at an exorbitant rate? Come on.

The thing is there are also real socialists around. AOC is very close to one. You normalize socialism and people gradually start going down the rabbit hole that leads to the real thing. It’s happened in Asia. This isn’t new. Identity politics is a good warning sign. If the US embraces socialism, the rest of the world will follow. I would call out the right wing people when they don’t know what they are talking about too(when I can be bothered to lol).

And how do you think they will get paid? By our taxes.

Look if you make something like healthcare a “right” then that gives the govt the right to compel a Dr to provide service. These things are all commodities, not rights.

You seemed to specifically respond to the guy who responded to the right wing guy who called them socialist in this example just to keep the conversation going. Strange choice imo

Which is all well and good, but again it doesn’t actually matter. You and loppar have done the “this isn’t real socialism” song and dance things 50 times now. In the sense of using standard nomenclature in the context of American politics, all it does is derail the conversation.

Also in the context that he specifically said ‘socialist like’ IRT their policies (many of which that Sweden implemented that were obviously social & govt reg).

Does a pregnant women have to take into account the health and well being of the fetus inside her just as parents are held accountable for the health and well being of their children?

Good. A doctor shouldn’t be able to refuse to help someone based on race or religion, for example.

So it won’t be free.

I’m not engaging THIS right wing guy because we have a history in the pharma section which involved him doing something dumb beyond comprehension. It wouldn’t end well.

Was it standard in the past? Or were people using the term “communist”?

No, but it’s standard now. Which is the thing that matters.

Similar to arguing against the commy talk 2-3 decades ago. It doesn’t actually matter if Russia wasn’t really communist, it’s just standard verbiage for discussion based on perceptions. You won’t be changing them.

Fair enough :+1:

Hey its been fun but I’m going to go back to the boards where I can talk about something fun like lifting weights and steroids.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Wait, we’re talking about Bernie and not the current large crop of democratic candidates who you said were all pretty much socialists? Interesting how that happened.

What a douchebag. Is studhammer the name of a dildo model?

The mules have had a tiny fraction of campaign funds generated by the elephants for many years now. This will be no different, Trump at best is trying to make the hurt a bit less.

But you wouldn’t have to argue against the commie talk. This is my point. It was internationally recognized that communism is bad. Most politicians on the left would distance themselves from it. Socialism, on the other hand, does not have the same stigma. However, unless you officially redefine the word and denounce it’s history, going down the rabbit hole is inevitable once it’s normalized.

Whoa, I’m not chasing you away. I just think it’s best that we do not engage each other, that’s all. You can post whatever you want. It has nothing to do with me. I won’t butt in.

Sure it was. But only because what is happening now (a concerted political effort to paint the adversary as socialist) in America was happening globally.

It’s not suddenly true just because EVERYONE doesn’t know what it means, instead of some white people.

Because the ‘socialism’ being talked about is branded as bread and butter extremism at every turn by its opposition. The left didn’t ask for the socialism tag. They chose to morph a tag that the GOP repeated into truthdom.

Also because scaling populations are a bitch when you refuse to let old people die.

The democrats could easily have denounced the fringe lunatics much earlier on along with socialism. They let it go on thinking they could tap into the youth demographic because people like AOC have millions of instagram followers. You can’t say it’s not a hole they also helped dig.

Edit

Most of the current generation in the rest of the world that I know of does not know what socialism really is. The information they will get will be from the mainstream media in the US. If they’re living in a socialist country, then the government will be the one convincing them socialism is “good”.

And I’d say they did so at a much better rate than the GOP did. Not happy that I’m whataboutism’ing but the context of parties using the ‘greater good’ logic to get things done is important.

Except the reality is much different. The GOP has been branding the concept of regulation as socialism my entire life (3 decades). They’ve thrown the word socialism at so many things that the definition became murky enough to lead to your current day dispute with the word.

I disagree. For the reasons above. ‘let it go?’ what choice are you assuming they had? Literally dealt the label of socialism regardless of the severity. I’m confused what you think their actual options were?

Also, fwiw, it worked fucking amazingly. Coupled with obamahate the first 2 years of Trump’s admin represented the GOPs strongest grip over the countries political offices in history.

Absolutely agree. But I definitely wouldn’t put much weight on the Dems if we’re fairly dishing it out

Almost like the whole world thinking Russia was a communist empire of communism?

You’re basically commenting on the beginning (and far less organized) process that was used to defeat communism.

They don’t know what it means or they don’t know what it’s like to live under it?

There is a candidate running for president who brands himself as a “socialist”.

No. Calling yourself a communist was, and still is, an arrestable offence normally governed by National Security laws in most parts of Asia other than the commie countries due to multiple violent riots and attempted uprisings. Which means it was severe to the extent that commies could be detained indefinitely without trial. It had nothing to do with the media. It was government crackdowns on commies. Which is why they started calling themselves socialists.

What it means.
