I think the Vikings suck so badly that any attempt to make themselves look better should be okay.
LOL, I thought that as I was writing it. They did win a playoff game last year against the saints. They have made the playoff more than 50% of the years lately. Certainly worst teams out there. They just can’t get it together when it counts. Here is what they have done in the last 5 years.
50 wins, 29 loses, 1 tie in regular season play. Not too bad IMO, and no losing seasons in the last 5 either.
I thought of a couple more:
- Satan’s Penis, D.C.
- Washington Intersectionalists
- Washington Obama’s
- Washington Non-binaries
It will be fun to play in Washington now. They won’t keep score so that everybody wins and no-one feels bad. The quarter back is going to be called the mansplainer and anybody can play any position they like any time.
This is my hangup. My first (very human) reaction is F the entire NFL! But if I slow down and think (tough thing to do these days) then I realize there a lot of good dudes mixed in there. Pulling my support won’t make a difference, but I like to support the good guys, too. It’s a personal thing.
One of my favorite stories of an NFL player is Anquan Boldin. His cousin broke down at night and an off duty police officer pulled up behind him. No one really knows what happened but the cop shot and killed his cousin. I believe there was a gun next to his cousin on the ground. As a cop, I will not blindly say that was a good shooting. His cousin might have been drawing in self defense. The cop was in regular clothes and in his own vehicle so he might not have identified himself. As of now, the cop hasn’t been charged. And that’s messed up. It could have been a justified shooting, but we’ll never know.
Anquan ha responded by speaking and engaging with police and the community. He acknowledges that there are good cops and bad ones. He didn’t just start shouting about police brutality. He is taking a slow and educated approach and I love that.
I’ll never say cops do everything right, but I won’t say we’re completely wrong, either. I would just like to be judged based on the actions and policies of my department.
Lastly, I have no problem having a discussion with someone from the other side as long as they can help me understand. Give me facts, statistics, or a specific incident that supports your view. Unfortunately, we had a local group give our City Council a list of demands. Demands! The document flat out said “We demand…” You know what they want? Cops (SRO’s) and military recruiters removed from schools, prostitution and drug crimes made legal, truancy made legal, and more help from social services.
I really don’t comprehend how that’s going to help anyone…
You never start negotiations with a list or requests. It is always a list of demands. Always. Nothing abnormal there. This will be a negotiation and compromises will be made, middle ground will be found, and extreme policies that are being blared in headlines will not actually be implemented.
Military and LEO recruitment in schools is tough. My personal feeling is that enlistment should only be pushed for kids that cannot go to college or trade school and will not survive in the real world without the maturation that the military can provide… which admittedly is a lot of kids. But i have also heard a lot about recruiters getting kids to sign up using some real shady tactics and promises just so they can hit their numbers. 17 year old boys are real dumb and easy to take advantage of, maybe disallow recruitment pitches on school property, but allow recruiters?. IMO prostitution should be legal but HIGHLY regulated (anything not fully licensed would still be illegal), and social services readily available for the workers. Drugs- weed should be legal (duh), and an addict doesnt give two shits whether their drug of choice is legal or not, they will find a way to do it. So IDK, maybe make it legal and cheap, but a PITA to get, and only in limited quantities? IDK if truancy was ever functionally illegal, and i agree with more social services- how they get the extra money will vary depending on jurisdiction.
My view is definitely skewed based on my experiences. I see lots of people who are exploiting the systems in place to get free housing, food, etc
I see women get discounted housing for being a single mom and then their unemployed, gang member boyfriend moves in with them. The program doesn’t allow men in the house but they never lose their benefits.
I’ve overheard women in line at the grocery store talking about another woman who gets more money than them because they have more kids. The tone of the conversation led me to believe the kids are seen as $$$ to them. It’s not about the family; it’s about how much money they can get without working.
Cops pretty much only see the bad side of humanity so it’s really really hard to understand certain things when people say they need to be changed or that they need more services.
Well, T-Nation says I’m hogging the thread, so I’m out. It’s been a pleasure having a dialogue about this. That’s rare these days and I kind of cringed when this started.
Maybe that needs to be a key aspect of this societal reform- the current social programs need to undergo reform before they can recieve any additional funding, and new programs need to address known issues in similar programs before they receive funding.
Wouldn’t WTF work also?
(I know nothing about football.)
Is the Eagle’s player Dallas Goedert any good?
Yes, Goedert is good to very good. He’s very athletic for the position (tight end).
Drafted 2nd round, 17th pick from a no-name school, South Dakota State (your state?), which is why I assume you’re curious? That’s fairly high, and the Eagles already had Zach Ertz, which means they really liked Dallas imo.
Yeah it’s my state. He got in a fight at the bar I work at a month ago, and we were recently sent an autographed football from him. It just made me wonder if the autograph part of it was cool - not that he’ll probably be the most famous player ever but just if he’s someone anybody cares about.
Are sports still a thing?
I spoke too soon. Newton looks washed. Brady is rounding into vintage form.
Didn’t see/read it myself, but supposedly some NE coach/player made some snide remark about Brady after his marginal performance in a week 1 loss to NO vs Newton running (no passing LOL) NE to an easy victory over Miami. Newton’s passing “ability” is absolutely GONE, he looks atrocious. Brady making pinpoint passes to his WRs and Gronk today.
As a NY Giants fan, I have been, and am even more so, squarely in the Brady bailed NE out all those years camp. Belichik is a great GM, above average coach, but without the GOAT QB…is he really the greatest coach of all time?
add: we are talking about the 43 frickin’ years old Brady here
LMAO. Patriots look like a joke vs the Niners, the vaunted defensive genius’ D gives up 33 points in 3! quarters.
GOAT coach (sarcasm) or not, teams give up when they fall behind, and know that their QB has zero chance of mounting a comeback.
Well, they’ve got those annual 2 victories against the Jets to count on…not sure they beat Miami next time around now that everyone knows the QB cannot complete any passes.
The GOAT coach (sarcasm), with his 2-5 record post Brady, is now apparently blaming Covid opt-outs and salary cap issues…
I always thought BB would retire when Brady left with Josh Daniels taking over. But I guess Brady still playing but leaving for Tampa Bay altered that plan? Or maybe BB started believing all the hype…like how “coaching” brought NE that SB victory vs Atlanta LOL.
Worse play call by (Packers/Le Fleur) since not letting Beast-mode run it in??
SO HAPPY that Brady is going to the SB. Take that, Belichick, you jerk!
On the other hand, so sad that Brady is not still in New England, where I happen to live.
I thought the same thing. Why not try for the tie with only like 2 minutes left.
I used to respect you…
The GOAT and The Gronk, back in the Super Bowl. Come on… how can you not love that?!
As a side note, the GOAT in baseball and the GOAT in football both went to the same high school.
Man, I just really don’t like Tom Brady. Gronk’s okay though.
I’m not a sports guy. Which baseball player are you referring to?
