Looku g a lot harder thats for sure

I didn’t save the pic, but Kai threw up an image a few days ago that looked pretty insane. Not getting ahead of myself though, because he always looked good months and weeks before the show.

Geez Phil smoked the field and many brought their best or close to it. Wouldn’t have been a question even with Kai there this year IMO.

That Dallas kid looks like someone to look out for in the future

Phil brought a nice package to the table, but I wouldn’t say that he smoked everyone.
Here’s my reasoning: remember the controversy surrounding Branch Warren beating Cedric McMillan? The judges basically decided that Branch Warren’s conditioning trumped McMillan’s aesthetic lines and nice, full muscle bellies.

If they use the same logic for the Mr Olympia, they should give the top spot to Dennis Wolf. You can’t judge one bodybuilding competition and say “hard work and conditioning are rewarded more than aesthetics and genetics” and for another competition do the exact opposite. You can’t have your cake and eat it too  .

Agree. Yet that will not be the case. IFBB judging sucks ass.

To me, Dexter Jackson displayed the most complete physique on that stage last night; he had the least “flaws”.
Phil did not “blow everyone away”. Far from it in my eyes.

Rhoden has a beautiful flow to his physique, but it looks like he is lacking separation in some bodyparts (arms…yeah, some with throw in the “oil” comment now) and his back is just…lacking in comparison with others.

If Dexter displayed the most complete physique, the most impressive was Wolf.

Again…in my eyes. My eyes are definitely not congruent with the bewildering eyes of an IFBB judge.

I will say that the field brought in a far better contest than I was expecting, even though I did think Wolf would bring some crazy conditioning, but none of those guys could fight with Phil from the back IMO.

BTW, how weird is it watching Amazon execs give out awards? Seems a bit off.

Too bad about Cedric.

Definitely. Weird indeed.

Heath’s back and arms…superb. Simply superb.

But in my humble opinion, a physique is not (or should not) be judged by one or two outstanding bodyparts. I will say that to me, Dexter’s back was just as impressive as Heaths. Hell, Dexter’s arms are also superb. Heath’s chest, abs, and even legs do not compare with the other 3 vying for the title.

I was impressed with Roelly as well, mostly because this version of his physique versus the disaster of last year is night and day. Those arms man…I would say they are better than Heaths actually.
Totally disappointed at Ramy.
That Dallas dude though…he will be something.
Really disappointed Cedric had to pull out.
Then there is Kai…I have lost a lot of respect for him.

Again, that’s just me. You know what they say about opinions.

After that last call out before the fitness finals, I give it to Dexter. His physique went toe to toe with Phil and dare I say it…Phil looks smooth next to him. Loved it when they put Rhoden and Dexter in the middle and Phil had to be on the outside. Wish they would have put Wolf in the mix in the middle though.

But…

The judges won’t give it to Dexter.

And that Bonac guy…Jeez man.
Thick as hell, and looked like he would fit right in if not blow away anyone in that 2nd tier callout.

Really interested now in the 212’s.

I reckon Phil’s body always looks smooth because of the crazy muscle belly fullness but his conditioning was obviously not at the 2011 level. Still, he was far bigger.

Geez, the judges did Dexter no favours. Was doing quite well out on the wing and then they bring in him next to Heath for basically Phil’s second best pose.

Oh yeah…Phil in 2011 was just shredded, hard, and just great lines. But I think Phil in 2012 was much better…maybe a little less sharpness but he really hit it with a combo of fullness, cuts, and maintained lines. Simply amazing combination. After that, in my opinion, he has been a bit off.

In my eyes (granted…they are becoming very OLD eyes…so maybe I’m not seeing things quite well, lol!), I thought Dexter looked GREAT next to Heath. Pose for pose. Dexter has better flow even though he might not be as big…but he is full and his lines are great. I guess I keep judging Phil by his 2012 look which really was awesome to me.

Watching the 212’s now…and it always amazes me how SMALL everyone looks after having seen the open class. Not that they are bad, etc…but somehow (to me now), less impressive. I understand the trend to want more classic physiques…I do too. But I find it interesting this phenomenon to me.

…then Flex Lewis steps out.
Wow.

Flex Lewis…awesome speech at the end there. A true gentleman…great representative of the sport.
Dexter standing next to Phil at the very end there…both relaxed…it definitely shows how much bigger Phil is. In the end, deserved. Congrats to Phil AND to Dexter.

So ends another Olympia.
See you all next year on the boards in another Olympia thread someone starts where in the end, I hope:

  1. Flex Lewis does indeed win his 5th 212 Olympia title and brings his daughter up on stage
  2. Shawn Roden gets a bigger back and pushes Phil
  3. Cedric McMillan gets into the game
  4. Someone comes out of the blue and surprises in the open

OR…

Phil comes in like his 2012 physique. I may not like his attitude, but I can appreciate the talent.

I’m a bit divided on Shawn. I thought the mass he put on his delts was what let him stand next to Phil and not be blown away but it clearly impacted his midsection which he struggled to hold as the show went on. He needs to keep that weight and put more of it on his back.

Wolf at 4 was absurd IMO. Guy’s skin looked like cling-wrap and didn’t have the flatness of last year.

Seeing Ramy out there in comparisons is almost comical he’s so big. I don’t know what you do with him at the highest level, coming in at around 280 doesn’t seem to work for him and neither does coming in at 315. Guess he’ll find the middle ground in time. It took Kai a while to get the balance.

so what were the placings? I’m too stupid to find out on my own
