2011 NBA Playoffs

I’m calling bullshit. Did you SEE Perk play these playoffs? He was TERRIBLE. He was not turning THREE GAMES into losses for Boston.

Edit: Also, why would Stern even want MIA to win? They are hated by virtually every non-Heat fan in the country.

hahaha… I think its what I call “The LeBron Effect”. Teams dont want their stars to just walk in free agency so they’re kinda “forced” to trade them early so they dont get dick all in return.
Also, I believe there’s a chance Ainge thinks Perk’s injury is serious and wanted to trade him before he destroyed all his trade value this season. His incredible (lack of) speed this postseason was glaring.

Not win the Finals, but be in the Finals. Cuz everyone who hates Lebron wants to watch them lose. I think the Bulls/Miami first game was the highest rated in cable tv history.

If ratings are the point why were the Lakers out in the 2nd round? Why was Memphis in the 2nd round?

Why did the Hawks beat the Magic?

I just don’t buy the conspiracy shit. I honestly don’t see how you can even care about something if you think it’s fixed - what would the point be?

You do realize that Miami was 0-3 against Boston with Perkins, and 5-1 against them without him, right? James and Wade are still two of the leagues biggest draws, are both top 5 in jersey sales and their names alone bring dollar signs to the eyes of everyone in charge. Have you not watched any NBA ads this season, playoffs in particular? It could not be more pro Miami.

I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy. I’m just giving you a reason that I’ve heard.
And I don’t think it’s fixed. Just a little swayed sometimes. lol

two of those losses happened in the first couple weeks of the season and I believe MIA opened their season against BOS. It’s really unfair to assume that if Boston kept Perkins they would have beat the Heat. Especially since the Heat got much better as the season wore on.
WhiteFlash wrote:
No one’s defense is fast enough to outrun crisp ball movement and precise shooters. If Dallas hits those shots [and I believe they will] then it doesn’t matter what Miami does. Also, Dallas needs to tighten up their zone. They were great for stretches but slacked for others.
The prob with any zone is that it can leave you vulnerable on the defensive glass.

MIA capitalized on this in Game1 and if DAL doesn’t clean that up, this won’t be a long series.

The Good ol’ Days…
PonceDeLeon wrote:
Disagree about Wade being “back.” I think he played it a bit relaxed last night. Probably much better than the last game against Chicago, but he still seemed a bit off.
Yeah much better than the Chicago series when he had his head up his ass, but still not the same Wade from the Boston series and the regular season. I think he’ll only get better. It didn’t look like he had too hard of time getting the shots wanted off Kidd. Westbrook was quicker, but Wade has a better arsenal of offensive options so I think it’s tougher for Kidd to guard him.

If Lebron keeps doing what he’s doing, Wade hits his stride and they keep playing that D, the Heat are going to decisively take it. Maybe then, they’ll get the credit(in this thread) they deserve for kicking ass and taking names in these playoffs.

I agree. This is not the same Heat team from the regular season; the team that regularly blew games down the stretch. The Bulls won all 3 against the Heat in the regular season too. I don’t think you can draw too many conclusions from the regular season when you’re discussing the Heat in these playoffs.

Wow, that is an atrocious argument. First off, PERKINS DIDN’T PLAY the first two times they played. In fact he didn’t play till nearly February. So they were 1-0 with Perk (a 3 point win at home, no less…hardly convincing). So clearly, you did not watch those games either as you say that.

You seriously couldn’t have watched more than 5 minutes of any of OKC’s playoffs games and came away with the impression that Perkins could have changed THREE LOSSES INTO WINS. He was AWFUL.

Side note - do you think this same reasoning is why the Lakers got Gasol?

I think Boston should have kept perk for the year.

The reason they traded him imo is you can’t fall in love with role players as upper management. They tried to get perk to sign an extension numerous times, he kept refusing. He was going to ask for wayyyyyy more money than he was worth. He has a history of injuries, is nonexistent on the offensive end, and he was gonna walk away if they didn’t pay him big time. They opted for a move toward the future and got Jeff green. Perk was brutal in these playoffs, maybe Boston thought he wasn’t ever going to be the same player ever again. The conspiracy talk is laughable.

Agreed. Look, AT THE TIME, I wouldn’t have done it either, but I at least sorta could understand Ainge’s logic. He had a bunch of big bodies to throw in at the 5 spot that could at least be reasonable facsimile of Perk (plus he was always playing Baby at the 5 in crunch time anyway), and his wing depth was named Von Wafer. Trading Perk for a competent backup wing traded a small hole for a big one in his view.

Throw on top of that Perk was coming off a very serious injury and may very well be a poisonous contract extension, I could almost understand it.

A healthy (or healthier) Shaq, would have done wonders. Even at his 350+.
