Bull. Fucking. Shit. He benched 225 24 times I believe. I’ve read on several sites that his max is 335-355, which sounds way more believable. Not saying that some of these dudes aren’t freakishly strong, but when you’ve been in the weightroom with athletes and see what passes as “good form” or hear how much someone lifts and then see said lift, you learn to not believe everything you hear.
An elite athlete with ordinary stats is more unbelieveable to me then reggie bush benching 450. I’ve seen guys who didn’t make it to the league bench close to 400 under 200lbs. In 2006 an already strong guy he did bench 225 23 times at a weight of 190, and maxed out at 335. Your telling me after 3 years of being in the league focusing on diet and training and gaining 35lbs of muscle with a trainer you don’t think he could get up to 450?

Despite this I think worrying about bush’s bench and being impressed by it or a corner over running a 4.3 40 is kind of silly. That means they probably focused on benching far too long and slacked up in another skill that could help them much more. Which is what it seemed like reggie did last year when he improved his most of his wieght room numbers, and his physique to the point he was modeling with his girlfriend and on every magazine cover. I hope he realized this since he seemed to have dumped her, and lost 20 lbs. Although I’d much rather be hitting her from the back and getting all my money in non contact endorsements than having 300lb+ linemen jumping on me.
I think this just sheds light on how over examined the NFL combine has become. The fact that a player can finish the season as a top 5 prospect and then proceed to slip to the end of the first round as a result of the combine is simply absurd.

How many times is a player going to bench press someone on the field? How often is a player going to get to sprint 40 yards? Given these tests may help shed some light on a players potential, I think they extremely overrated.

Players should be judged on their tape and on their stats, and then adjusted for the conferences they played in and their mental makeup.
I agree but this is all speculation. Remember last year when Andre Smith was dropping like a stone on the draft board and was taken 6 overall. Coaches and GM’s dont really watch NFL network and ESPN to get prospect updates. It just makes good drama.
I think this is true for guys from big name schools, but I don’t know about the small schools. I think GM’s and recruits think they only look good because of the competition.
Could be but also because of the money, small school player goes lower on the board have to pay him less.

I’m afraid to check the sports ticker thinking that I’m going to see Big Ben get traded. I know the Rooneys want to look good in the eyes of the public but don’t fucking do it!

If they did, I got to believe it would be for #1 overall and they are too cheap to go that route so the chances are very slim. It could explain why the Rams have not signed Bradford which makes me even more nervous.

Big Ben may be a degernerate but I don’t care and I’ll probably burn in hell for admitting that.

Yea but then you have the cases of kids like Darrius Heyward Bey, Aaron Maybin, and Tyson Jackson (all from the 1st round of the 2009 draft), who simple went as high as they did because people fell in love with them after their combine performances. They didn’t put up prolific numbers in games, but they did at the combine, and were way over-paid and way over-drafted as a result.

True but look where those teams that drafted them are at? I agree that the combine is over analyzed but idiots like Al Davis will continue to keep the Raiders down for stupid ass drafts. All it takes is a few bad drafts and then head coaches are fired.

It’s getting close! I hope some big trades go down also, I’d love to see Big Albert get moved out of DC and Lynch get moved to a better running team. I also want to see Big Ben get cut or traded to some garbage team, but that’s probably not going to happen.

Pick 13 49ers - Joe Haden
Pick 17 49ers - Anthony Davis

With more teams switching to a 3-4, this draft is going to be all over the place for defence. It always is, but looking for undersized lineman to convert to a OLB is tricky stuff.

I would give my left nut to be able to hang out in the war room of the Steelers.

Is it thursday yet?

Big Ben to Buffalo? I am just curious is the Draft going to compete against the NBA playoffs, I stopped watching NBA a few years back. Are there games on Thurs and Fri? Who gets better ratings?

Sorry man. Honestly the dude is a shit head. I would not want him on my team. Steelers have a proud franchise (they finally one upped the Cowboys) and I really do not see them keeping him.

People still watch the NBA?

Only the last 5 minutes of the playoff games, and that’s when there’s no hockey or baseball on.

Bradford WOULD be a 1st overall pick.

Except he’d be playing for the Rams… shitty O-line and no one under 40 or so to throw it to. Meaning he’ll be in a body bag. Draft Suh and then O-line and receivers.

ANY QB gets better with an O-line and someone to throw it to. Can wait till next year to get a QB.

But no, they cut Bulger and are going to let their o-line try to protect a tiny injury prone tim.

I guess they do, there is a 2010 NBA playoff thread here in GAL. That is what got me thinking. Like I said I just cant get into it anymore and lost interest. I would rather watch old re-runs of UFC.

Bump 11 hours to go

Apparently the guy who puts out the most accurate annual draft has Jimmy Clausen falling all the way to 30 and being selected by the Vikings.

I’ve been reading a little more about him because of the speculation that the 49ers would take him if available. He seems like has he has great tools, maybe a questionable personality, but I just can’t shake the nightmare of Brady Quinn when I look at Jimmy Clausen. What are peoples thoughts on the kid?

I’m hoping Jerry Reese has a repeat of his phenomenal 2007 draft. I’m hoping the Giants can get a middle linebacker who can read defenses instantly and get into position quickly. It would also be nice if he could cover Witten, Westbrook, Celek etc.

I just got a PS2 after years of not having one and picked up Madden 2010. I hope it makes the offseason easier to bear instead of checking 20 blogs a day for the tiniest scrap of news and opinion. i swear being an NFL fan is like being an addict.

So I guess Rolando McClain is the obvious choice for Big Blue, but there’s rumblings here that Giants mgm’t isn’t convinced he’s the one. besides MLB another young LB to groom would be great as well.

Other than LB I’d like youth on the interior O-line, especially a center to groom behind O’Hara. Besides Pouncey, there’s supposed to be quite a few good centers this year.

Finally, a DT in case Canty, Bernard and Alford don’t come back strong from their injuries.

One more thing: if the Giants trade Osi Umenyiora, which i don’t think is a good idea, they’d better get some great picks in return.

Well so the drama builds to 7 pm. Still no signing of the 1st overall pick. Bradford already holding out before he is picked?

I can’t figure it out either. They must be shopping that #1 slot hard. I know that’s pretty obvious to anyone here but in the recent past this pick is wrapped up by now and signed.
