Great roundups thanks guys! I did see some of the Lakers/Nuggets game, Kobe was intense! Gasol was WOW! I think Odom will be the dark horse savior for the Lakers, he gets better and better. Finally Walton is performing!

I wish the Suns will decisively beat SA.

Thing about Odom and Walton is that they are finally playing injury free. Odom was a mummy last playoffs and Walton has been basically day-to-day with minor tweaks and cramps.

I have always been impressed with Lamar Odom, I am surprised he is not an all-star and does not get more credit. His drives to the rack are as intense as LeBron, his rebounding abilities are on par with Dwight and Camby, and his passing is comparable to, well maybe not quite CP3, but definitely in the upper echelon.

He nearly posts a triple double every game. Often only off by a 2 or 3 assists. And he does all of this so quietly.

Definitely one of my favorite players. When Bynum is back in the line-up the Lakers are going to be insane.
Great points about Odom. You really think Bynum is coming back at all this year? And if so, how to best use him?

Well Bynum is basically 100% rehabilitated right now, but they can’t exactly play him liberally in the playoffs. It is possible we’ll see a minute or two during the semis, and if that goes well he could conceivably make an impact in the finals.

Fortunately for the Lakers, they have grown solid without him. Unfortunately for them, I think that they will not be able to beat the Celtics without him. So, I hope that he can get it together by then.

When it comes to basketball I’m not the biggest fan, but when it comes to Cleveland sports you can bet your ass I’m a die hard when it comes to the play offs.

Unguided hope: Cavs in the finals

word to that homie.

recap: Cavs sweep wizards in 3.

Then against detroit… who knows what will happen, should be exciting though.

jumping in late on the thread, but I had to wait for the Bruins to be eliminated before I could pay attention to the Celtics (first round in the east doesn’t look like it’s going to be much to write home about anyway). Anyway, I’m not a huge basketball fan, but after seeing B’s Habs go to seven, I’d love to see a Celtics Lakers final. Just to complete the trip down memory lane (only this time with a Boston win!!)

Monday, April 21 Recap:

 1. Cavs defeat 5) Wizards 116-86: The King with a near triple-double (30/12/9), and the Cavs easily defeat the Wiz. Three Wizards players had 12 points each, but Gilbert Arenas wasn’t one of them, only scoring 7 points in defeat.

 2. Jazz defeat 5) Rockets 90-84: Deron Williams scored 22 and Mehmet Okur with a more than solid double-double (16/16), and the Jazz go home up 2-0. Tracy McGrady almost had a triple-double with 23/13/9, but went cold at the wrong time (4th quarter), and the Rockets lose to the Jazz for the 8th time in the last 10 matchups.

Stud of the Night: LeBron James. Monster game from a monster player at the right time of the year, and his Cavs go up 2-0.

Good recap.
Tmoney,
What do you think of that Pistons-76ers matchup? This series could get kinda ugly before it’s all said and done.
Hey Xeneize, I think Detroit will come out fired up for Game 2, earn the win, then win three straight after that and take the series 4-1. I am NOT discrediting Philly’s win in any way, but I just don’t see Detroit playing two bad games in a row.

But I’ll agree, could get ugly pretty quick, we’ll see. Should be exciting in an already dry East.

East does it matter? Just would like to see Detroit drop out, just don’t like the Pistons…
Hey, look who it is!!!

Thanks for joining the thread kind sir, sorry again about the Warriors.

Good pic on the teams. Rockets might not get very far, seeing they are down 2-0. Lakers and Hornets should advance. As for the Suns, sorry buddy, gotta go against that, gotta pic the champs.

great to see you running things around here again, tmoney.

But cmon guys, we went over this last year: PHO was the better team (at full strength) and a silly interpretation of an even sillier rule essentially handed that series (and the title) to SA. So not only were the Suns better than the Spurs last year, but they’re also the better team this year. Too bad they might just lose again.
Chillain, nice to have you on board again this year.

PHX is good, but they are not San Antonio good, if that makes any sense. The Spurs are ridiculously well-put together come playoff time, and I think they will take the series in 6…again. If Game 1 is any future indicator for the rest of the series, it should make for good playoff basketball.

Your Lakers look pretty solid, very impressed with Pau Gasol’s play yesterday.

As long as the Spurs or Detroit dont make it to the finals ill be happy. Teams im rooting for are N.O., Cleveland,Orlando and underdog Rockets
Brooklyyyn, nice to have you along.

Good pic on the teams. If you don’t want the Spurs or Pistons, you must have REALLY hated the 2005 Finals then, huh? LOL.

I’ll agree with Orlando. I think they are the most overlooked team coming in this year to the playoffs. They won their division, they have Dwight Howard (freakin…beast), and they have a solid nucleus of a team. Watch out, they might surprise some teams.

Being a Torontonian I’m obviously a massive Raptors fan, which puts me in the immediate minority :o

Some general comments on the games I caught this weekend:

Cavs vs. Wiz: That game was like letting a bunch of criminals loose on one another. Did anyone see Jamison’s death stare and him mouthing “I’mma keel you mothahfucker.” All that trash talk between Arenas and James will continue to produce ridiculous 1on1 efforts.

Prediction: Cavs in 6

Suns vs Spurs: This game should have been won by Phoenix, but foul trouble on Amare basically sealed the deal for San Ant. Their goal of letting Duncan do whatever he wanted while they covered the perimeter players worked. If Nash can look for his shot as much as the pass, it should be a Suns win, finally.

Prediction: Suns in 7

Dallas vs. NO: Not sure why NO ins’t getting more credit. Chandler and West are crazy bigmen, especially since Chandler has shrugged off his ugly Bulls days and reinvented himself with CP3, who is by the way, sick. JKidd/Dirk, a solid tandem but their supporting cast of Terry/Dampier is just not enough.

Prediction: NO in 5.

UTH vs HOU: Didn’t see this game, but Utah is completely underrated and I could easily seem them winning the west. Deron Williams was unconscious this year, and if he were playing in the East, he would easily be the best PG in that conference. He may be the best PG in the West, it’s arguable. No Yao = first rd. exit.

Prediction: Utah in 4.

Philly vs Detroit: Crazy game last night. Mo Cheeks has these guys believing. Couple that with stealing a game at the Palace… Detroit is solid, no doubt, but they like to turn it on and turn it off whenever them deem it necessary. As good as Philly played down the stretch; they need big fast break/transition plays to win and big plays don’t consistently come in a 7 game set vs. the Pistons.

Prediction: Pistons in 6

As for the other games, pretty evident that Boston will sweep and I don’t like to talk Raptors playoffs, especially after a loss. Sorry if that was long, I didn’t intend it to be.
Tyler123, nice to have you on board. Not too long at all, longer posts are good with me.

Solid analysis all the way through. I didn’t see the Jamison comment, but that is very un-Jamison like, which probably makes it better for the series. Yeah, Agent Zero and the King going after each other verbally leads to some serious mono-a-mono ball. I ain’t complaining about that. I’m going Cavs in 5.

I’m still going with the Spurs in 6. I agree, NO doesn’t get enough credit, they will move on in 6, and I think the Pistons move on in 5.

As for your Raptors, Bosh is a beast (plus he has cool hair, so that’s a bonus), I think they have a chance of taking game 2, and taking it up north with home-court in their favor.

Spot on MV about Odom, I’ve always liked him, he is very fluid for his size, and doesn’t get enough credit for his role. Being from Queens, his game is more finesse, and to see him move like that is impressive.

Oh yeah, when Bynum is back, it’s going to be ridick. And I’m still very impressed with Gasol’s Game 1 performance. I think for that game, he made people forget about Kobe. Hopefully he keeps it up for the sake of the Lakers.

Stuntman Mike, welcome aboard.

Hey man, the Cavs made the Finals last year when no one gave them a chance. Heck, after being down 2-0 to Detroit (which they could have won those two games), I thought they were going to get swept. But LBJ and Co. pulled it together, especially that Game 5 performance, where the King put on his crown and scored the team’s last bunch of points (25 points I think). James is obviously the key to the team’s success. How James goes, the team goes.

Good luck to the Cavs.

Hey Shane, nice to have you here. The first round series have actually been extended to 7 games, so if the Cavs sweep, it will be in 4 games. Either way, it’s a good possibility if A) LeBron keeps going bonkers and B) Hibachi keeps going cold (bad time to start shooting bad).

Yeah, look forward to a Cavs/Pistons rematch, should be good. Gotta get past the Wizards, the Wiz really need to pull it together.

It’s great to see this thread back. As a San Antonian I’m a huge Spurs fan. Saturday was a great game. Duncan was phenomenal. Although I have to admit that I was saying NOOOO when he was lining up for the three. But hey. Nonetheless, the Spurs are suspect this year having been blown out in three games by playoff bound teams going down the stretch. Not very reassuring. Still I’m going with my Spurs in 7. Nash and Amare were phenomenal. Hang on to your seats.
Ahhhhhhh DD back in the saddle. Our resident Spurs fan. Nice to see you again.

I’m sure you almost had a heart attack when you saw Duncan launch that three, and a HUGE sigh of relief when it went in. That game was awesome! I hope all the games in the Series are like that.

Speaking of the Spurs, your boy Manu picked up some hardware today, Sixth Man of the Year. Congrats, well deserved.

m0dd3r, good to have you. Man, your Bruins ALMOST pulled it off. The fact that an 8-seed to a 1-seed to Game 7 is phenomenal. Sorry about the loss, but good season nonetheless.

It’s a good time to be a Boston sports fan. Patriots are dominant (sorry for the Super Bowl loss to the Giants), Celtics are #1 in the NBA record wise (and Garnett is my favorite player), Bruins made the playoffs and almost knocked off the Canadiens, and the Red Sox are defending World Series champs.

I think a lot of people are hoping for a Boston-LA Lakers Finals matchup. Would be good for ratings.

Sorry for so many posts in a row, just trying to get back with everyone. Had a presentation today I was preparing for all day and didn’t get a chance to watch any games, so my apologies for the 10+ consecutive posts.

I look forward to Bynum coming back for the Lakers, but I worry about team chemistry and how much he’ll actually be able to contribute.

The Celtics scare the crap out of me and as much as I’d like to see the Lakers take it all, I don’t feel as confident about the finals if the Celtics are across the court.

But… it’s a little early for that, gotta win it one series at a time.

As for Houston, McGrady always disappears in the fourth quarter. It’s what he does best. Utah in 4.

Nuggets fan checking in. I’m afraid it might be a long short series for us. The zone was working in the second quarter and they turned a big deficit into a small lead, but then in the second half they remembered they are the Nuggets and don’t play defense. Actually I was inpressed how Kenyon Martin and JR Smith kept a lid on Kobe, but the Lakers still scored a ton, led by Gasols easy jams. I was very, very impressed by the Lakers ball movement and passing. Oh yeah, and Iverson needs to like, find his free throw stroke again, fast.

Tyler123 - nice post man, keep it up.

deputydawg - good to see you again. All I’m asking is for Bowen to not cheapshot anyone this series.

and my brother tmoney - please don’t apologize for the Pats: Spygate might not be over with yet.
