2008 NBA Playoff Thread

Very efficient win for Boston tonight; the nine point spread belies how much Boston dominated the flow of the game. There’s not a whole lot of insight about the remainder of the series that you can draw from tonight’s game. Boston simply held serve.

However, Billups was clearly not 100%. He’s close enough that he can still play and be a somewhat effective player, but he is obviously still hampered a bit by that hamstring. How much he heals (or doesn’t) during the rest of the series might be a factor.

What’s up with Ray Allen shooting poorly as of late?

I suggest he watches a movie titled ‘He Got Game.’ That might help him out.
It’s odd (and frustrating, as a Boston fan) to see just how badly Allen has fallen off during the Cleveland series and Game 1 tonight. He was only a little bit off during the Atlanta series, but he’s just vanished the past eight games.

Allen at least played D, got to the free throw line, and hit some layups and putbacks tonight. If the deep balls ain’t going, then take it to the hoop. Ray did that tonight.

Man, what a game!!! The Spurs, coming back from 3-2, win game 7 on the road, in a series where all games were won by the home team. The Spurs are the true mark of a championship team, and they showed it tonight.

The Hornets have nothing to be ashamed of. They had a fantastic, took the defending champs to seven games, and will be back even stronger next year.
Concur. With the playoff experience the Hornets gained this year, they are going to be a scary team for the next few seasons.

No one hates the Celtics as much as I do, but I was really impressed with their Game 1 win tonight. they showed no ill effects from just coming off that grueling Cavs series and they pretty much controlled the game from the opening tip and efficiently kept the Pistons at bay.

If anything, Detroit looked a little sluggish after that long layoff.

I think Game 2 is going to be critical. If the Pistons can take it, and I think they have a good chance, they will likely win this series. If Boston goes up 2-0, I think the Celtics take it in seven. I just don’t see the Pistons taking three in a row from Boston; the Celts are too good for that.

No pics from me tonight; Wasn’t because of my anti-Boston thing, just training a new guy and busy as hell at work. I’ll get some up from Game 2 for sure!

It pains me to have to root for the Lakers now. I just can’t stand any of the other times left in this playoffs.

Be nice for Kobe to win one without Shaq

Yes I am a Suns fan so I tend to agree! Ha

Just another stupid articles from the Arizona Republic.

My hope/prediction for tonight’s game. Spurs steal one in LA. Working off of pure adrenaline and little sleep and still high off of an upset in NO the Spurs steal one from a somewhat sluggish LA. Is this merely wishful thinking? Maybe.

Well, SA shouldn’t be out of gas themselves; they’ve played only one game since last Thursday. Plus, that Game 7 vs. NO wasn’t particularly taxing, as Game 7’s normally go.

I would not be surprised at all to see SA win this series as well. LAL is good, but I think many people tend to dismiss SA simply because they’re tired of the Spurs, not so much because SA isn’t that good anymore.

This is looking like a damn good prediction at the moment. I would have hoped the Lakers would have learned from watching the Pistons’ sluggish start, but i guess not. Good game by the Spurs.

[EDIT] Even though the Lakers won, your assessment was dead on. It easily could have come to pass. I think the Spurs started looking a little fatigued near the end and a lot of jumpers that had been falling in the first half were clanking off. Looks like the Lakers found their rhythm just in time. Kobe played like an MVP in the second half. This is going to be a great series.

Can’t resist adding this one:

The Spurs are a better team than the Utah Jazz.

But that was a very impressive run by the Lakers to bring it within 7 at the end of the 3rd.

Unbelievable come-back by the Lakers. Kobe did most of the scoring, but their team defense was tremendous. Very Impressive. Not that it means anything. The Spurs know how to take a punch.

Holy crap! What a comeback!!

Wednesday, May 21st Recap:

 1. Lakers defeat 3) Spurs 89-85: Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, including 25 points in the second half, Pau Gasol had 19 and 7 boards, and the Lakers pull overcome a huge deficit to take game 1 at home. Tim Duncan had a monster game with 30 and 18 boards, and Tony Parker had 18, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Stud of the Night: Kobe Bryant. 27 points, including all but two in the second half, 9 dimes, 5 boards, and an awesome effort by him and his teammates to go up 1-0 in the series.

As a Lakers fan that was a ton of fun to watch.

Amen to that. Although my blood pressure and heart would prefer a comfortable 17-point win any day.

A cool shot. Tim Duncan and Pau Gasol battle underneath the basket.

how about kobe crossing up bowen a great defender. he made him look silly he almost fell on the first move, then he just gives up and jumps away from him to try and make look like foul but just made him look even more ridiculous.

Damn that game sucked! Everything fell apart when Bowen picked up his fourth foul midway thru the 3rd and went to the bench. Once Bowen got back in the game at the start of the 4th the Lakers had erased 15 points of SA’s 20 point lead and Kobe was in his groove. Bowen did the best he could but once that train starts rolling no one can really stop it. It’s really sad because Timmy D had a great game. But Ginobli just flat out sucked. I had really hoped that SA could steal one in LA. I don’t think that’s going to happen now.

Xeneize:

Keep those great pics coming!!! They are awesome and they are different than the ones we see in the papers.
