2006 Tour De France

Yep, I ride ride ride. Hopefully I can get my act together and start racing on the track and maybe a few road races this year.

I don’t know enough to say what proportion of the TdF field is doping, but I think it’s stupid to believe that the reality is 100% either way.

However, for those riders who are shown to be doping (Ullrich, Basso) I have zero pity for them. Everybdy who’s on shit brings the sport into disrepute. You take the shit, you take your chances no matter what everybody else is doing.

So fuck you Ullrich, I’m glad you never won!

Whatever dude, these guys still train their asses off 8-12 hours a day all year. No amount of ‘doping’ can make that easy. It’s an entirely different mentality. These guys have made sacrafices you can’t possibly comprehend. You ought to respect that. (BTW, 1997?)

5 minutes on the stationary bike before leg day is as good as it gets these days. I used to ride all the time when I was younger and lived in Holland but never rode competitive.

My dad and I used to take our bikes down to Southern France and follow the tour. I climbed L’Alp D’Huez or tried to climb it rather one day, unbelievable on TV, absolute madness in real life.

Does anyone here actually ride/cycle?

I used to ride all the time, I entered a few races and won the junior catagory. I used to finish with the lead group of a cat 5 race, too. (juniors and cat 5 raced together since there were usually only a few juniors.)

Now I’m more interested in lifting, and 3 and 4 hours of cardio isnt exactly great for putting on weight.

I still ride on occassion though, wish I stll rode as often as I did though.

He has won a TDF. 1997. look it up genius

Anyone else wondering where Allessandro Patacchi and Fassa Bortolo is. I’d love to see him put the hurtin on McEwen.

I love seeing McEwen in the sprints, he has his timing down to perfection and he has the aggressive attitude needed to win as well. The power those sprinters generate in the last 100-200m is amazing.

From the first few stages it looks like it’s gonna be hard to beat Robbie for the green jersey this year!!

Petacchi isn’t that great of a sprinter everyone makes him out to be. Hes a good sprinter with great lead-out men.

I think in a 1-on-1 sprint, Robbie would take him.

2 completely different sprinting styles here. Pettachi was alot more like Cipo, where he tends to wind up his sprint 300 meters out in a huge gear all the way to the finish. Robbie is more of an explosive type sprinter and can still find that extra kilometer/hr or 2 inside the last 50 meters alot like like Oscar Friere (Spain) can. Either way, Petacchi still has had the better of McEwen in most of their head to head sprint finishes.

BTW…Fassa Bartolo are no more. Petacchi now rides with Team Milram.

To answer my own question. I forgot all about this.

Don’t get me wrong, I like McEwen. I’d just like to see Petacchi give him a run for his money.

The declassification of Husvod was bullshit if you ask me.

Dutch team Rabobank has their first stage, nice job Freire!! Good for them, the loss of Dekker was tough to swallow. It was his last tour so I know he is pissed.

I am 7th in the hunt for the yellow jersey, so far have been off 22 minutes total for the stages completed till this point.

Looking forward to the time trial tomorrow, I have them going 49.11 km an hour so we shall see.

Any idea why he wasn’t in the TDF last year?

Well, I have several close friends who are or were on UCI ProTour Teams and they’ll freely admit that drugs are used, but it’s nowhere near to the extent that people around here claim. For the most part, they are used by the very elite who can afford such programs. The teams as a whole do not supply them.

You’re crazy.

You don’t win as many grand tour stages as Patacchi without being a great sprinter.

He and McEwen have very different styles, however.

I don’t think Petacchi is in the race this year, so it’ll have to wait for another race for this to happen!

McEwen did it again yesterday, 3 stages won out of 6. And look out for another Aussie, Michael Rogers in the time trial today, big chance to be in the yellow jersey as he is 3 times world time trial champion.

No he isnt in the race this year. In my original post I was asking if anyone knew why he and Fassa Bortolo wasn’t. Turns out I had forgotten that Fassa Bortolo is no longer after October of 2005 and that Petacchi is racing for another team. Fassa was in the TDF last year but no Petacchi for some reason.

Rogers is one of my favorites to watch too. Im eagerly waiting to see how the battle of Landis, Hincapie and Evans goes. This should be good.

Interesting stuff…I guess I sometimes dont want to see reality. If it ever turned out Lance used anything, that would fuck me up.

As I’m a pretty much a newb fan when it comes to cycling, I have a question:

Are the mountain stages the only stages where significant time can be gained/lost? It seems like that’s where all the separation is occurring. Is there really a big difference seen in the second time trial? If anyone could point me to a resource on cycling strategy, teamwork, etc. that’d be great.

CC, Greg LeMond won his TdF with his performance in the 2nd TT. I forgot how far he was back on time but he made up a large deficit and his average speed for the TT was insane.
