Hey, you got a pretty solid team man. You picked 4th and got Alexander? How the hell did that happen? Did some moron take Peyton in the top 3 like they did in my online draft? You might want to keep a close eye on Ben Watson. He is slowly becoming Tom Brady’s favorite target. Plus that would be double points for you everytime they hooked up. But McNair loves to throw to his TE’s also. I have Heap and hope he has a big year.

I got your $5 and my left nut that says McGahee doesn’t break 1500 yards this season. Ok, well maybe just the $5! LOL I thought that when I made a trade for him last year that I was going to make out like a bandit. I never even started the damn guy.
Close. The guy who picked #3 took Steve Smith. I nearly fell out of my chair when I witnessed that. The guy was an obvious Panthers fan, as he also went on to draft Jake Delhomme in the third…one pick before I selected Tom Brady. Ha.

As far as McGahee goes, I live in Buffalo. He did jack last year because Mularkey and company used him ALL wrong. Every single time he touched the ball it was a between the tackles run. Willis is not a power back. That, and the interior of Buffalo’s line last year was brutal. Yeah, nice combination there Mularkey.

He was also never used on third down last year. They took him out in favor if…Shaud Williams? Huh?

This year Dick Jauron has already shown in the pre-season he plans on doing some pitches and outside running for Willis. In the second pre-season game one of Willis’ first carrie was a pitch to the left tackle…and he took it 61 yards to the house. Utilizing him better, putting him in an offense that better suites him, and him dropping 10 pounds in the off-season; I’m seeing some big things in his future.

And you can keep your left nut. Ha.

Nice. So Alexander slipped to fourth? It would be great if you could package 2 of those WR’s for a top dog.

Yeah my receivers are the one area that isn’t top notch, but I supposed that’s the price you pay for being solid everywhere else. I’m hoping Plax has a good enough year that he can carry my receivers. Might be wishful thinking though.

A 10 team league but a couple of guys still don’t know what they’re doing even after 3 years of playing FF. One guy drafted Haselbeck with his first pick for example.

I’ve never played in a keeper league, and I just joined an existing one with people whom I work with. My question is about who to draft with my first pick.

There are 5 people who had keepers last year(out of 12), and they are in slots 1 - 5, but don’t pick until round 2. I have the 6th pick, so I’ll be picking first technically. Now I believe the following players are gone:
S. Alexander
Edge or P. Manning have to find this out
Steven Jackson
Larry Johnson
Ladanian Tomlinson

If Peyton is available should I go with him, or pick up the next best RB like Portis or Tiki, and in round 2 pick up a QB?

Thanks for any help.

Dude, thats sweet, get me into that league, haha.

Ok, should be interesting to see how that all plays out. You obviously have the inside scoop on McGahee. But I just don’t see a 1,500 yard rusher on that Buffalo team. But, that’s just me. I’ve been wrong before and i’m sure i’ll be wrong again at some point in my life.

Thanks for letting me keep my nut! haha

Oh and Steve Smith 3rd overall! Check that guy into a rehab program because he’s clearly smoking a lot of crack!

Whats your scoring format?

I would take Tiki. Since Port went down, on the average Tiki has been drafted 4/5 overall. I dont believe in drafting a QB that early. I would nto pick up a QB till round 5/6 personally and take care of my RB’s first and then WR’s.

If those guys are indeed gone you need to pick up Tiki or R. Johnson. I know that people have been taking Portis but I have him as a big ?. They brought in Duckett and he’ll vulture goal line carries from him. Plus, is his shoulder going to keep him from seeing some action this year. I think it is.

Tiki is a year older but plays in a more explosive offense and hasn’t had that injury bug yet. Sure, they bring in Brandon Jacobs on the goal line but Tiki will still get his.

Don’t take Manning. You need a top back more than a QB.

Some line up decisions and logic for week 1:

Cooley against Minn or LJ Smith against Houston? I like Cooley but skins look horrible, and its against Houston so I may have to start LJ.

Reggie Bush against Cleveland or Dunn against Carolina. I have Bush in there right now.

Jamal against TB. or Lundy against Phili. Got Jamal in there right now.

I would have to agree with LJ against Houston. The Skins offense is looking terrible. I hope they turn it around or i’m going to regret taking S. Moss. Bastages!

As much as I’d like to go with Bush against the weaker Cleveland D. I think I have to go with Dunn against Carolina. Bush is going to still be sharing carries with Deuce while Dunn is pretty much the lone guy in Atlanta.

Plus, the Atlanta run game is still looking strong this year. And without Duckett there to vulture goal line carries, Dunn should get more chances. Yeah, Carolina has a better D, but I like Dunn’s chances better than Bush.

I would leave this one to a coin flip. Jamal has been unimpressive to me and he’s still battling injury. Lundy is a rookie and could be sharing carries with Morrency. I think if either of these teams score it’s going to be in the air. Either way, I don’t think you are going to get many points out of either of them.

But hey, what do I know! haha

Alright, so I picked up Lundy in my Yahoo league and have him hanging out on my bench. No big deal because I had room. But, should I do that for my other league? I can only have 4 RBs on the roster so I would have to drop someone. Here’s what I got.

R. Brown, C. Taylor, D. McAllister and DeAngelo Williams.

So, i’m thinking that I could drop McAllister as he is going to be splitting carries with Bush and might eventually lose the job to Bush.

Or should I just sit tight and see how Lundy does before I make any drastic moves?

Never drop a proven starter for an unproven rookie that may or may not split. I would sit tight for now. You prob start 2 RB’s in that league, which means most weeks you would start Chester and Ronnie over Lundy or Duce anyway.

If anyone’s looking to join an offense/defense league, I still have 2, maybe 3 spots open. We officially have 5 teams right now, but 2 more will be joining for sure, and another one might join. We’re looking to have 10 teams in the league. Our draft is this Sunday morning.

Each week, you would start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, and 6 defensive players (regardless of position). You also get 10 bench players of any position. Defensive players get points for tackles, assists, sacks, INTs, forced/recovered fumbles, and passes defended… so basically they score around 1/3 to half of your team’s points. The league is also points-based (not head to head).

It’s on yahoo, so it’s free, but the catch is that yahoo doesn’t rank defensive players based on statistics at all, so you would need to edit those defensive player rankings a lot on your own (could take an hour or so). I recommend fftoday.com for helping with defensive player rankings, since that site has good stat projections using the same scoring method as our league uses.

If you’re interested, again it’s on yahoo, click “join custom league” and the league ID is 554742. Password: snizzjibbler

If you check out the settings and decide you like how the league looks, you’re welcome to go ahead and join (especially if you’re a competitive person). If you can’t make the draft time, you can always just have the computer automate your draft based on your player rankings… just don’t forget to rank the defensive players, or you’ll end up with some 3rd string guys that you’ve never heard of.

We’ve got 8 teams in our league now, but I’d like to have 2 more if anyone is interested in joining. The draft is tomorrow morning. More info about the league is in my post above.

Now that I’ve annoyed everyone ads for my league, here’s who I ended up with (10 team league):

QB Vick
QB Favre
RB S.Jackson
RB Westbrook
RB C.Taylor
RB M.Bell
RB L.Maroney
WR Chambers
WR Burress
WR Driver
WR Glenn
WR M.Jones
D Vilma
D Bulluck
D Urlacher
D N.Barnett
D Adrian Wilson
D Trotter
D K.Morrison
D Umenyiora
D Madieu Williams
D B.Sanders

I might trade a defensive player and Vick/Westbrook for a better QB/RB. My defense is ridiculous with probably 3 or 4 of the top 10 players. Any thoughts?

Only in one league this year. Was in three last year - jeez, it becomes a black hole really. I love it !!

Our draft was last night:

10 team league , picked 7th in the draft order.

Here’s my team: Round taken in parentheses.

Any comments are sincerely appreciated.

QB:

Bulger, STL (6th) - solid No. 1 (fingers crossed for no injuries)

Leftwich, JAX (10th) - a solid No. 2

RB:
R. Brown, MIA - (1st)stud hoss in the making?

L. Jordan, OAK - (2nd) he’s just money.

C. Taylor, MIN (7th) (I’m excited about this pick - I think adding Hutch to the line is going to be huge for him - dark horse anyone?)

Tatum Bell, DEN (12th round steal?)

Laurence Maroney (11th round) - could be a late season gem)

WR:

Randy Moss, OAK - (4th) he’ll bounce back after a subpar '05

Anquan Boldin, ARI (3rd)

Donald Driver, GB (5th)

Ernest Wilford, JAX (15th)(w/ Matt Jones’ injury - he’s going to step up in JAX)

Braylon Edwards, CLE (14th round steal! Plus, I"m a Michigan alum so I figure why not? )

Kevin Curtis, STL (16th)(not bad in the 16th)

TE:

Randy McMichael, MIA (9th)

(I think he’s going to be the real beneficiary of the Daunte Culpepper era in Miami - he finally has a QB who can make the rope throws through middle coverage. )

K:

Jason Elam (8th)

DEF:

Dallas Cowboys (13th)

Peace, and good luck to all the players!!

Cooley against Minn or LJ Smith against Houston?
I’d start LJ Smith. Why?

 1. The Iggles have been flying under the radar all summer b/c of how stacked the NFC East is this year.

Everyone is talking shit about the ‘Skins, G-Men, and Parcells’ new look Cowboys - but if you look at the Iggles - they are stacked on both lines have upgraded the receiving corps, with a solid running game and a pissed off and very motivated Donovan McNabb aching to put the TO nightmare behind him once and for all. It has the makings of a solid, winning season.

 1. Oh yeah, they are playing the Houston Texans. They are beyond crap.

That one’s a no brainer.

The prospects for Cooley look good because of the Saunders offense - but damn if they played like crap in the preseason and with Clinton not at 100% he’ll definitely get more looks. However, I’d be cautious and see what they did in week 1.

Remember, it’s the TE slot, so it’s not like a huge number of points. If you have to worry about your TE’s that much, your team isn’t all that strong then.
Reggie Bush against Cleveland or Dunn against Carolina. I have Bush in there right now.
this is a tough one. I know Reggie is a freak and all - but then again - he’s a rookie - but then again it is the Cleveland D… hmm… on the other hand you have Warrick Dunn against a bad ass Carolina D - I can see big Julius chomping at the bit for this one.

Give Reggie the rock !!
Jamal against TB. or Lundy against Phili. Got Jamal in there right now.
I agree with this one as well.

The Texans are a mess until I see otherwise. Lundy is all buzz right now - but let’s see what he does in a real game.

People are skittish on Jam Lewis b/c of how crappy he played last year - but remember he had that jail crap in the previous offseason and he had no QB to speak of either. So teams just stacked the box against the Ravens and forced those two losers Boller and Wright to win the game. Telling stat - only 2 completions of longer than 40 yards all last season for the Ravens. Pathetic.

All that changes this year - McNair and Mason should get some pressure of Jam and having Mike Anderson around will make sure Jam doesn’t wear down late in the season either. As you can see, I was big on Jam as a dark horse rebound RB and I think he’s got something to prove and will bust his ass to make it back into the elite RB category.

Good luck next Sunday. Check my post w/my lineup and give me some feedback.

Peace!

Your team looks very good, but you scared me saying that Matt Jones is injured. It’s Greg Jones who is on IR. Matt had an ankle injury but he’s been playing lately and is not listed on the injury reports that I’ve seen.

Vilma, Bulluck, Urlacher, Wilson… were the other members of your league even drafting defense??? Nice job man! You’re a little (maybe a lot) shaky at QB.

How many defensive players do you start and what does that scoring system like?
