That looks like a pretty good draft!
If anyone in this thread wants to join the T-nation league I set up PM me.
That looks like a pretty good draft!
If anyone in this thread wants to join the T-nation league I set up PM me.
I, on my oh-so-hardcore Yahoo casual league, have:
QB- Eli Manning
RB- DeShaun Foster
RB- Willis McGahee
TE- Antonio Gates
WR- T.J Houshmenzadeh
WR- Keenan McCardell
WR- Steve Smith
DEF- NY Giants/ Cincinati (I am going with Cinci which is usually my backup, week one)
K- Mike Vanderjagt
Backups: Cincinati D, Byron Leftwich, Curtis Martin, Amani Toomer.
Overall, I am ok with this team but I am lacking depth at WR.
Just as a quick addendum, I dropped Amani Toomer and picked up Eric Moulds. I have a feeling Moulds will have a good year and Amani will have an average one or get injured.
I have also proposed a trade for Ronnie Brown for Curtis Martin and Jeremy Stevens. Martin is getting up there but I hope the other team owner gets greedy and hopes for a miracle. I have a suspicion Stevens wonky ankle will bug him all year and I’d like some more depth at running back. Willis and DeShaun are solid, 1200-1500 (bare minimum) yard guys if they stay healthy, but I like Ronnie Brown this year.
Of course, now I have to figure out a new backup tight end. I will pick up somebody if the trade goes through.
I finally took the fantasy plunge and joined a casual league on Yahoo. This is my first time with fantasy football and I’m jacked about it already. It was an autopick draft. Here’s who I ended up with:
QB-Bledsoe
RB-S. Jackson
RB-L. Jordan
WR-H. Ward
WR-C. Chambers
WR-D. Driver
TE-T. Gonzalez
K-J. Reed
Def-Pittsburgh
Backups-T. Glenn, L. Coles, Chester Taylor, J. Stevens, B. Leftwich, Philadelphia Def.
I’m pretty happy with the results. Any thoughts or suggestions?
No offense brother but that is a bullshit offer. If the other owner accepts that, he has been smoking and drinking…a lot.
You are asking for a no 1 RB and top 12 pick and give him what exactly in return? A RB who is done and will most likely retire. Even if he does pla, they just traded for Barlow and now have five RB’s on their squad.
Stevens is a 3/4 tier TE at best and is out for 6 weeks.
If that trade would go through in any of my leagues, it would be hell on eart with the other owners and screams of collusion would fill the air. For you I hope he is dumb enough to accept, haha.

Nice squad, I would worry more about my RB’s, little thin there. McGahee had an off year but I think he will rebound.
Foster is always a hair of grass away from another injury.

Yeah man, you will get hooked, try to get into a money league next year.
I like your RB’s and WR’s are ok as well. There is talk about Bledsoe being possibly benched in favor of Tony Romo so you may want to keep that in mind. I dont think it will happen but you never know.
I dont like Gonzalez this year. He will primarily be used as a blocker now that Roaf retired and that will mean far fewer chances than in the past.
Good luck with your squad bro.

Hey guys, I was on vacation all last week so i’m trying to get caught up at work. And also get caught up on my T-Nation!!
I just got asked to be in another league and i’m pumped. This one is a live draft league and will be my first time doing a live draft. It should be a blast and i’m researching strategies and stuff. So, if any of ya’ll got some tips for me that would be much appreciated.
I’ll write more later, still trying to get caught up at work.
I have had 3 in the last couple of weeks so I think I got it down. Post scoring format, what you start, draft position and how many teams in the league and I will give you a basic strategy.

Just got my team 1 hour ago. I took a few chances, but also picked some solid number guys. The league was ESPN and 10 teams.
QB: P. Manning, Favre, Rivers
RB’s: Dunn/McAllister, Dillon
WR: Holt, Moss, Kennison, L. Coles
TE: Crumpler, Alex Smith
K: Elam/Vinatieri
D: Seahawks/Broncos
Took the chances with moss/dillon and even Coles (martin is hurt though).
Drafted Favre and realized I messed that up cause Indy and GB have the same bye week. Rivers in the 3rd from last round not a bad pick.
Have two great kickers, so hopefully will get something offered up for one of them.
Kennison has been steady past two years and dunn has 1000 yards almost every season and manning, well, no need to explain that. If he isn’t doing so hot, I do still have Farve with the 3,000 yds and 20 TDs
Not too bad. I would package Favre and one of your RB’s other than Dunn for a healthy RB. Try Favre and Dillon after Favre puts up big numbers in week 1. I just dont like the situation in NE, too many people steal carries from Dillon and Maroney looks good. I am pretty sure Rivers has a weak opponent when Peyton is on bye.
DOnt hold your breath on the kicker trade, you can always pick up a kicker who has a favorable opponent off the waiver wire.
I like Kennison and love Dunn. Problem with Dunn is a rack of yards but few titties. Whats your scoring format?
Good luck bro.

This is what I have for info so far. 10 team league, I don’t know the draft order. In past years they have done draft position based on previous years results. But with myself and another new person in the league we might have a random luck of the draw draft order. I don’t know.
3 qb’s
4 running backs
6 wideouts (no TE required)
2 defenses( this includes speacial teams returns, kicks returned for a TD)
2 kicking
I don’t know how the points work yet but when I find out i’ll let ya know.
Amsterdam Animal wrote:
Normal scoring for the most part 6 for rec/rush TD, 4 for pass TD. 1 for every 10 rush/rec yds and 1 for every 25 pass yard.
That’s where I might get hurt going with Manning first.
Usual 5, 4, 3 for FGs w/ distances. I picked up seattle’s D because they play SF (who just traded Barlow = packing it in) twice. This way I get at least two good games from them (10+ points).
Positions: 1 QB/1RB/1(RB/WR)/2 WR/1 TE/ 1 Def/ 1 K
I didn’t think of the Favre trade idea though, thanks for that.
Good luck to you as well, seeing as you play in the big money leagues.
I hate league formats where they make you draft a certain number of players at each position. How many players do you start at every position?
Draft order and scoring format are critical to draft strategy.

You can still be ok with Manning, with that scoring format for QB’s, I would have prob picked a RB first.
Normally you would want your flex to be a RB since they are more valuable scoring wise.
I dont think trading Barlow equates to packing it in. I think SF was gearing up to have Gore start for them all along. The coaching staff definetly favored Gore and he is the better back if he can stay healthy. With that said, the Seattle D should still perform well against them.
Thanks for the luck bro. I did well in my drafts, I just need my horses to stay healthy. You can draft like a champ all you want but as soon as your top dog goes down, you are sol.

We just had our draft. 10 team keeper, salary cap league. We’ve been doing it for a few years with the same guys and it’s pretty serious.
Qb- Carson Palmer
Qb- Rex Grossman
Rb- Edgerrin James
Rb- Willis McGahee
Rb- Mike Bell
Rb- T.J. Duckett
Rb- Ahman Green
Wr- Chad Johnson
Wr- Marvin Harrison
Wr- Torry Holt
Wr- Darrell Jackson
Wr- Joe Horn
Te- Tony Sheffler
K- John Carney
Lb- Shawne Merriman
Lb- David Pollack
Db- Adrian Wilson
Db- Dunta Robinson
We start 1 Qb, 3 Rbs, 3 Wrs, 1 Te, 1 K, and 3 IDPs.
I’m not sure how I feel about my team going into this year. I decided to ditch Julius Jones and Willie Parker (who I had as keepers from last year) as I was afraid of them losing touchdowns at the goaline. I managed to pull in a sick receiving core, but as you can see it left me weak at running back- although if Bell can continue the tradition of Denver no-name backs that break out, I could be in good shape.
I was psyched that Adrian Wilson fell into my lap in the fourth round this year, I don’t think he’ll repeat last year’s amazing season, but he has to be a top 5 defensive back and probably one of the top 10 defensive players overall. Dunta Robinson was an IDP sleeper for me, he plays well in run support so he gets a lot of tackles for a corner and I think his interception total will bounce back up to his rookie numbers.
Tony Sheffler was a sleeper for me, although I wish I could’ve had him as a backup. After Gates, no tight end is really that valuable, so I decided to spend my cap space on extra depth at RB and WR.
I drafted Duckett with the hope that he would wind up in New York, only to find out Barlow went there. Since it is a keeper league, he’ll be a good prospect for when Dunn is finally out of there, but just doesn’t get the yards needed to be a starter.
I had to give up Andre Johnson and a couple of draft picks in order to get Marvin Harrison, which hurts my team in the long run (as I think AJ wil be one of the best WRs in the league at some point), but I couldn’t pass up the chance to possibly have 3 of the top 5 Wrs on my team this year.
Don’t even get me started on the the status of Carson Palmer… I practically have a corony every day because of that man!

Like you already said, you do have a very sick receiving core. They should produce for you.
Your QB situation is all hanging on the status of Palmer’s knee. As i’m sure you already know. Grossman has never been able to put together a full season and from what i’ve read isn’t impressing the coaches this preseason. It says a lot about your QB situation when Brian Griese is in the running for starting QB. Ouch.
I like Edge and think he’ll have a solid year even though Arizona stinks. I think teams will key on shutting down their passing game and hopefully that will open the field for Edge. We’ll see.
McGahee is a disappointment plain and simple. I had him last year and he sucked. He plays on a bad team with a bad QB and that doesn’t bode well for the rushing game. I think he’ll struggle again this year.
Mike Bell continues to impress in Denver and looks like he could have the starting job. How does Denver keep producing these RBs?
Duckett isn’t a starter and probably won’t be ever. But what do I know.
Ahman Green, as a Packers fan I hope that he will be able to bounce back and become productive again. But it’s doubtful. He suffered a major injury and is a year older. I think he’s on the decline. Which sucks because he was a workhorse. The other thing that is hurting him is the fact that the Packers O-Line is questionable at best. They are starting two rookie guards and their center is a 3rd year guy who maybe has 5 career starts total. The Green Bay running game is looking very bleak again this season.
If I were you I’d look at picking up a sleeper at running back and probably drop Ahman Green. As much respect as I have for the guy, I just don’t think he’s going to produce this year. To much is stacked against him.
The rest looks good too. Good luck this season.

Thanks for the response. I’m definitely hooked already. I can’t believe I waited this long to join a league.
I’m using this year to get my feet wet and hope to join a money league next year. I heard about Bledsoe possibly being benched but I just don’t see it happening.
I am a little concerned about my TE’s. I agree that Gonzalez probably won’t get the opportunites that he usually does and Stevens is questionable in my opinion. Not to mention that he’s hurt. I may drop Stevens and pickup Vernon Davis as my backup. I know he hasn’t caught a ball yet but his potential is very appealing to me.
So your format is receiver heavy. Depending on where you draft, I would go top RB and then come around and go top WR. You are looking to start a run on WR’s so a RB will come back to you in round 3.
This worked well for me drafting first. There was some trading but I ended up with LT, Fitz and Holt in a ten player league. When it came back around, b/c I had gone back to back WR’s, a WR started and an RB was there on the turn. You can go RB and WR for your 4th and 5th picks and have your starting 1 RB and 3 WR with a solid back up RB just in case.
