19 Y/O Routine Blood Test, Cause for Concern?

Hey guys, I had a routine blood test done after complaining of low energy to my doc and the results got me thinking about some other things I’ve been noticing.

Age: 19
Height 5’11
Waist: 30 inches
Weight: 147 lbs

Body and facial hair: I have a very hairy legs and pubic hair that extends to my groin. No chest, back or belly hair but decent amount of armpit hair. Darkish forearm hair starting to show. Small patchy facial hair that only requires shaving once or twice a week.

Body fat: always been a very lean guy, but in the fast few years I’ve put on some fat around my ass and upper thighs. Occasionally I go through periods of around a month or two where I have a very low caloric intake (cause I have to cook and buy food for myself) but the fat doesn’t budge. Very skinny upper body.

No major health conditions ever.

Diet: Here’s where it gets bad. I’ve only recently taken a concern in my health, but for the majority of my life I’ve eaten tons of junk food every day like chocolate and potato chips. Calorie wise I think I’m at around maintenance hence why I’m not fat, but the calories I do get are mostly junk food.

Exercise: Been living pretty much a sedentary lifestyle up until now. Like no exercise, ever. Gonna get a gym membership soon and start lifting.

Libido: Since I started puberty, my libido has pretty damn high I guess, as it should be. Haven’t gone more than a week without “relieving” myself and even then that was only because I shared a room temporarily, and I was on the verge of exploding at the end of that week.

Psychological: With the odd male fat distribution, here’s where I’m most concerned. I used to be a very positive person who really enjoyed life and having fun. But in the past few years, I’ve noticed a kind of numb feeling. I don’t feel like I enjoy the same shit as much anymore and don’t have that same love of life, I feel like I just ‘exist’ rather than live. My libido has also diminished a little and erections aren’t as strong, still get the occasional morning wood though.

My blood test was only routine and as such not a whole lot of relevant stuff but here are the only relevant things on it:

Item Value Given range
Total testosterone 438 ng/dl 288 - 1009
TSH level 3.3 U/ml U 0.35 - 6.9
Cholesterol 3.93 mmol/L U 3.5 - 5.2
Triglycerides 1.19 mmol/L U 0.3 - 1.7

Taken at 9am, overall blood count was also a little low. Pretty limited selection I know and though nothing too extreme, but surely as a 19 year old male I should be bursting with testosterone? TSH also seems quite high, I’ve heard the new upper range for TSH is 3.

According to Normal Testosterone Levels In Men: Average By Age Chart I’m below the 10th percentile for men below 25.

Seeing my doctor again soon and asking for a more in depth hormone blood test.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, at this point, all you can really do is get the blood-work outlined in the Sticky “Labs…” and see what they look like when they get back. Getting the more in-depth tests will show what, if anything, is going on with your thyroid, and if there is anything contributing to your testosterone score’s value.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
