Looks like I’m right on track with deadlift again. Goal today was to up the weight from last weeks set 670x5 to 690 and go for 3-5 reps. Figured id get a decent 3 and try for 4 next week. Nope, smoked 4 and would’ve hit 5 for an all time rep pr. when the weight hit the ground on the third rep it jarred my right hand free and forced me to regrip. Then same thing with the left hand on the fourth but I didn’t want to take the chance and regrip with my left hand. That’s the one that got a blood blister a few days ago and didn’t want to risk making it worse. 690x5 was 100% there and doable today. Followed it with a single at 750 that had some downward travel (was not expecting it to be too clean with the big set beforehand). I should be good to pull something big soon. I’ll post the two clips to here in a bit

Well I’ve been down a few lbs lately. I want to walk around 190-194 for an easy cut to 181 at any moment just in case. I normally deadlift 1 notch tighter on my belt and coming in today I figured since my bodyweight was only 190 id try the my tighter setting. Top set was 505 and having the belt tighter really f’ed me. I got 3 terrible reps. Took the belt out a notch and gave it a few minutes and hit 4. Still not what I wanted, was looking for 5 maybe 6. Would have been there the first try if i didn’t dick around with my belt. Going to either go for it again next week or drop back to 435 for max reps and increase again depending how I feel. Deadlifted after squats against bands up to 595x5 plus 200 lbs of tension. Had 1-2 more reps in me but my thumbs were slipping. I don’t feel my hook grip will fail with anything less than 860 to 900 for one rep. the only reason for the recent slipping which it’s not technically failing is very heavy weight coupled with hitting the floor hard for reps.

Also should add even though this was done after squats it beats my best pull against these bands of 595x4 done fresh. I was in the middle of realizing I couldnt push through that knee injury though.

Well shit i just lost my grip on a triple at 710 today. It is a pr for using calibrated plates but I was looking for 4. I’ve pulled 725x3 on uncalibrated in the past but uncalibrated have gotten so much easier to pull on so I’ll take it. Weighed in at 190, was a shitty day going in. Might try for 4 next week. I’ll post clips later. Did a second set of 3 also that grip held for but didn’t have the strength for a 4th rep that set.

Edit: completely forgot to mention just worked up to a decent single 530 on squat. Not bad for being after 6 total reps with 710 for deadlift.

Grip? That’s something for mere mortals to worry about not hook grip gods

Did your hand tear or you just couldn’t hold on? Do you normally have grip issues with max/near max singles? Few people would use hook grip when doing reps with such heavy weight, if your grip will hold up for 800+ then I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Do you ever do any sort of grip work? I do some on and off, like overhand holds (not hook grip obviously) or thumbless shrugs, I don’t have any grip problems but I also don’t want to develop any as my deadlift goes up. I’m just not sure if anything really improves grip strength for hook grip, I can’t really tell if those things have helped or not. What are your thoughts?

Happens with hook grip from the impact with the ground.

I don’t have problems with single reps is the impact between reps that messes it up. Only recently with heavy weight. I’ve hook gripped 815 no problem. I’m not too concerned for singles but may need to add straps for rep work. I just like when my thumbs are used to hookgrip

You can see when my grip slips the bar hits me pretty good in the shin. I thought the large cut was from keeping the bar close but it was from the drop.

Looks like I got things set so I’ll be going to check out the Arnold for the first time this year.

Squats moved pretty good today. Top set was 540x2 which is threatening my best of 550x2 cause this moved nicely. Dropped to 440 for a set of 10 or 11 I miss counted at 5 I think so made sure it was at least 10. I didn’t record that set. Then pulled a top set of 625x4 plus 200 lbs in bands. Missed a fifth rep unfortunately. Bodyweight was pretty light again at 192. Don’t pretty good strength to bodyweight right now and we’ll within range of a cut to 181 so I’m happy.

Thanks ha ha. I like to take a deep breath them open my mouth at the end to get as much extra air in that I can.

Makes sense. I’ve found I have to get all my air before I lift the bar. Once I have the weight on my back I can’t take any extra air.

I yawned too, god dammit!! :joy::joy:

Yesterday I worked up to 120 dbs x10 and 140s for 6. I need to get back into heavy Db work. Benched up to 345x2 a few exercises after the Db’s

Today I took it easy cause my lower back and quads were pretty sore. Squatted 405x8 and some light barbell rows with 135 and called it a day.

Db pressed sets of 10 with 50,60,75,90,110 and 130s.
Weighted Pullups for 10s with 18,26,36,and 44 lb kettlebells
Hit close grip Bench to a top set of 275x7 which is close to a best. I’ve done 285x8 but I think I was fresh then.

Yea it sucks. I’m hoping they can’t get them lol.

Pulled today on calibrated a double at 730 and hard single at 765. The 730 I wanted a triple but the band aid as effecting my grip. Took it off for the 765. My hand should be good now to hookgrip I have just been overly cautious with it and it’s causing me to slip.

Forgot to add paused squatted up to 455x3 and 495x2 after deads
