Eat as much protein as possible. Don’t eat junk like an asshole and do this.
I’ve read about a protein overdose, and I’m not sure if the 1g of protein per lb would apply to me as i am only 15 and not yet fully developed
What, specifically, have you read about it?
I haven’t acctually read anything on it. My mum told me that she read it somewhere or other that it can happen, and since those macro calculators only start at 18 I’m inclined to believe it
I was just going off your previous post that maybe you don’t have a lot of protein, that’s why I worded it that way just eat as much as possible for your family situation.
You owe it to yourself to do your own research, rather than rely on the second hand retelling from someone else.
I have a child that is younger than you. Their favorite restaurant is Texas De Brazil. I have watched them take down enough red meat to put grown men to shame. They have not suffered any consequences from “protein overdosing”
I wouldn’t. Find stasis, keep lifting, keep learning.
Dude, good on you for getting into and for not posting your email or face. Teenagers and shirtless pics still make me uncomfortable, but I’m old.
I’m not going to disagree with any of the advice so far, but I will bullet point:
- Eat unprocessed foods, focusing on protein. This will take your calories down as a side effect.
- You’ve got to do some conditioning work. I think hill sprints are the coolest.
- Pick any program linked or that you see on this site and appeals to you and just get after it.
- I think playing a sport is a nonnegotiable. It will do so much for your athleticism, mentality, body control, composition, emotional control, and on and on and on that you just can’t pass up the opportunity. Not everyone is good enough to play something at their high school, especially nowadays, but there’s often “non-cut” sports like track. At worst, find a rec league that at least has formal practices.
Good luck!
Lol - add GOMAD.
What do you mean? GOMAD?
Gallon of milk a day
Coined well before you were born
X2 any of the programs suggested:
Starting Strength
5/3/1 for Hard Gainers
Grayskull
Dietary advice: do what @T3hPwnisher says. You came for advice. Take it.
Literally, lol at “protein overdose“
Thanks for the advice guys, means alot. I’ll post an update in 3 or 4 months
My advice would be to not get too fixated on diet, but avoid the obvious bad food choices. A balanced diet also include good carbs. Have a look at the modern Nordic food pyramid as a guideline, but don’t be scared of adding more protein sources as a bodybuilder. Maintain three regular meals a day, and two minor meals in between. Make sure to add fruits and vegetables. Concistency is key, as with training and sleep.
I would learn the big lifts (squats, bench press, deadlift and military press) into perfection, and slowly gain strength over time. This is the foundation to everything strength related. I cannot emphasize this enough! Take lessons in technique from sensible people. If I were you I would have joined a raw powerlifting club, to work on the big lifts. No need to rush things, as it will come to you over time. It’s way cooler/better if you’re still in the lifting game in 10 years from now. Consistency is key! Strength precedes gains!
And, stay away from illegal supplements, as nothing good will ever come from such an approach at your stage.
•eat real food (not processed) and try to have a protein source with each meal (I think providing you’re healthy you’d have to have a ridiculous amount to “overdose”)
•train each muscle group once a week (even your stronger muscle groups)
•always use full range of motion
•train hard, very hard!!
•get plenty of sleep
•do some form of cardio, even if it’s just getting your steps in
•most importantly, ENJOY IT
Can I suggest that rather than do this, start a training log on here and engage with other seasoned lifters who can give you good advice.
Tagging in @tlgains as he was in your position a few years back.
If you can start on a good program now and develop good technique, work ethic, discipline and eating habits, you will be miles ahead of other young men in a few years time.
Best advice ever.
I took it to mean he was trying to exit stage left.
yep me too, but thought I would give him a chance
I combined Scooby1961’s teen workout plan with wrestling and eating a clean diet with a ton of protein to make huge gains from 15 to 16. I brought my lunch to school every day and it was always a high protein base like some kind of meat and healthy sides like a banana, spinach and/or carrots. My parents would make my lunch for me before school, so that was a huge help. I would also make smart decisions when eating at restaurants, chicken and rice, steak and potatoes. Other than the training program and my parents making my lunch, these are still things I do to this day.
Here’s the program:
Here’s me after my first workout on the program at the age of 15 in April, 2011:
And here’s me exactly one year later to the day at the age of 16 in April, 2012:
I can’t promise you’ll make the same progress I did, but I can promise that what I laid out is a winning strategy and will definitely improve your physique! Good luck my brother! I’d love to see a training log!
How would I make a training log?
