While I would agree with your opinion that prices will have to rise , I will contend that we are living in Ronny Reagan’s world of supply side economics . The supply of cheap stuff has eroded the demand side .

The best thing we could do to stimulate the economy is re-re-distribute the wealth that was wrest from the working class since Ronny assaulted the middle class.

Well those apples were taken from the working class with in the last 35 years I am saying they should be returned

supply economics has run it’s course , it is time to turn the page back to a balanced economy and quit focusing on one aspect

Supply - Demand

If we keep focusing on supply demnad in America will wither

I do not own an, “Apple tree,” and I’m doing just fine. My wife does not own an, “Apple tree,” and she is also just fine.

I don’t claim to know why the income disparity has increased; however, I have a feeling that:

1.) Increased, “Supply,” of international goods coupled with;
2.) The outsourcing/off shoring of employees and increased import of raw materials

Has a lot to do with it. I think you also need to look at other income sources, how they’ve changed, and how they have affected the difference. I.E. Capital Gains for example.

then you must get no benefit from the apples because if I have 8 apples today I will have 7 tomorrow and 6 the day after . They also spoil at a alarming rate  So a tree is your best option unless you want some of someone else’s apples

could not agree more . Cheap stuff comes from China , India , Brazil and Russia . If we buy stuff from there . Their workers get the compensation and their workers spend their income on stuff Their country produces . While Americans get cheap shit , hence a healthy supply and because no one is working and those that are ,are making less disposable income hence we have less demand

That graph is looking at “family” income, which means it isn’t a serious analytical endeavor unless it adjusts, and shows how it adjusts, for the change in family sizes.

It also ignores, like most lefty talking points, vertical mobility throughout the quintiles.

In other words, that graph is garbage.

It does not destinguish between family sizes , the average is 2.87

Hope that helps

I thought it was an extremely straight forward and simple example of how taking 3 apples from me and giving them to Pitt DOES NOT grow the economy. In typically PWI fashiion it turned into Lord knows what. I only asked the same question 3 times after all.

Maybe in ideological fantasy land, but in reality it is nothing more than a very valid reason for government interference into the market.

I’m not an anarchist, and for the same reasons every government turns into a tyrannical war machine, is the same reason communism won’t work, is the same reason a totally free market won’t work either. Man is flawed. Government (structure to provide order) is needed.

As long as we have as close to a free market as possible, we are operating under the best system we, as humankind, have come up with. As long as we have government, there will be interference. Therefore, in the real world, if th government is subsidizing agriculture for the very real geo-political reasons mentioned, there are far worse reasons for the government to interfere than that.

Yeah, no. While it might not all be in relation to national defense, some certainly is.

Because I can think, and I’m not beholden to any one set of ideas.

I wouldn’t say pointing out one of the reasons for the subsidies is “touting”, but it doesn’t matter. You’ve already assumed my position, and this is the reason I didn’t want to debate it.

Being “okay” with something realistically doesn’t always mean you agree or support something ideologically either, but…
Anyone could make similar arguments towards health care, the auto industry, any of the bailouts, etc.

Necessary to prevent possible future disaster. For the good of the nation. Look at history. You can say the SAME thing about almost any government involvement in the marketplace.
No shit. That is the point.

Painting with a broad brush is dangerous, and a large part of why most partisans from all sides suck.
Farmers made record profits in 2012 despite absolutely awful conditions. We’re really gonna sit here and be pissed at fast food workers wanting more money and ignore the other people who get more money? Seems tough to do with a straight face.
You can’t see it done without a straight face because you either misunderstand the positions of people posting here, or are assuming.

I see a whole bunch of people that are leery of a third party that pays no negative consequence for being wrong dictating the pay of low skill labor. No one is angry about people who deserve a raise getting one. Just so happens, it is very unlikely that someone pulling pretend meat our of a microwave that deserves a pay raise and/or promotion to manager hasn’t already gotten it or is in the process of getting one.

No, average family size form a different source from the graph doesn’t “help”.
