100g of Protein Powder a Day...

…do I need to suppliment with BCAAs?

Is there any mileage in this? Don’t I get all the amino acids I need from the powder?

You don’t need whey and you dont need BCAA’s either. You get all the amino acids you need from food - which can include whey.

I would buy straight Leucine or EAA’s over BCAA’s. Much more bang for your buck.

Followup Question - I hear of BCAA, Leucine and EAA use associated with calorie restriction/cutting or IF as a way to mitigate strength/muscle loss while inducing minimal insulin response. Is this assumption correct? So if you’re eating throughout the day and hitting your calorie requirement (above TEE) and macros, is there any benefit to those supplements?

They’ll help. I say Leucine bc it is a powerful mTOR stimulator (promotes protein synthesis and decreases breakdown). If you take 5g Leucine 20 minute before a meal, it will increase the rate or protein synthesis from that meal.

I’d also have to agree with this mentality as most of the BCAA’s benefits is Leucine. What I would love to see is an in-depth study of Leucine vs BCAA’s on training individuals

Yes Leucine along with Creatine can minimize muscle breakdown in a hypocaloric state. Also Leucine is a very insulinogenic.

Re: BCAA vs Leucine study

I get what you’re saying, I always like to see ‘evidence’ but I think all the anecdotal info we have is evidence enough to prove it superior g:g.

So is leucine a worthy investment?

Yes. Look around and you can get a 1000g for 25 bucks.
