10 Miles Back Again

To be honest? I think I’ll be fine just getting really really good at press ups and OHP. I really don’t envisage me getting much weaker on bench by not doing it for a bit. I could easily be wrong, especially as I’m expecting to shift a fair bit of flubber in this time.

Yeah fair enough. FBFB Always looked kind of cool in a very bare-bones kind of way

It “worked” for me when I was looking for some basic heavy lifting to maintain some strength while focussing on other stuff before. From memory, I massively misread the program and completely fucked it up last time though. Still worked, so I might try and remember exactly how I fucked it up so I can fuck it up again.

Haha. I hate when that happens. Thank goodness for long training logs

That was pre-training log, maybe even pre-T-Nation i think.

Floor press is fine or just start on those push ups. Luckily here the gyms aren’t closed yet and even if they do I have full garage gym next door I can use. I only have to worry if we are quarantined in our house. I agree with you that now would be a great time to do some conditioning work. Lots of tabata sessions and if you have a barbel and some weight do lots of barbel complexes. You have a great opportunity to seriously improve your work capacity which will help with strength when you get back in the gym. Time to find your vomit threshold.

I reviewed Krypteia and Athlete the Lower/Bodybuild the Upper today. The assistance was 25-50 push and pull along with 25-50 single leg/core on bench and OHP days and 50-100 of each on squat and deadlift days.

Technically, one could do push ups, pull ups, and RFESS or lunges and be in compliance.

How’s life on that side of the Irish sea? Not massively envious of anyone working retail at the moment, the way people are behaving.

I haven’t really been able to get a decent sense of what’s going on at the minute, if I’m honest. Work and home life are pretty all consuming at the minute. My impression is definitely that people will continue to be reckless and irresponsible until they are physically marched back into their house by the police. Driving home today, I couldn’t have guessed a lockdown was in place. And from a retail perspective, we’re pretty much holding our head in our hands going “what the fuck are you idiots doing?”. Every measure any company puts in place to keep people safe gets ignored or abused. Supply chain was just about managing to start filling shops back up to a reasonable level, then lockdown kicked in and the shelves emptied again. It’s a losing battle against stupid unfortunately.

I’m sure there’s some positives out there though. Weathers pretty good.

The fact that these panic buyers are causing the very problem they want to prepare for (not to mention cramming into a confined space during a pandemic) absolutely wrecks my head.

People are very good at justifying selfish decisions. I nearly had an argument with a customer on Sunday (my face to face customer service is extremely rusty), because a colleague wouldn’t sell her 3 9-packs of toilet rolls. Her argument was that one of them was for her mother (it was mothering sunday after all). My argument was that if her mother was that desperate, why didn’t she offer her mother some of the pack we were prepared to sell her? Or at the very least split the 9 pack down and take half each? Hadn’t even crossed her mind that she could go without her 18 rolls.

So, quick update:
No training. Lots of stress. Minimal time (apologies, I’ve not been keeping up with anyone logs. I’ll catch up when I can)

Eating has been ok. Mostly good quality food, with the occasional cheat item. I’ve also fallen into intermittent fasting, which actually seems to be a manageable eating pattern for me that could serve me well in future. I’ve been fasting from 6pm to 10am. Seems to have gone a long way to keeping total calories under control without anywhere near as much hunger as anticipated. I may try and slowly slide that 10am a few hours later, but we’ll see how it works with a more normal schedule (if that ever happens).

I plan to start training from home tomorrow since I have 4 days off, then theoretically 3 days of light duties. If no illnesses show in the family, I’ll try and train every day. Each of the basic movements daily, but only one with real intensity.

Glad you are ok. Don’t worry too much about missing the training but if you can find something challenging or something you enjoy then it won’t be a bad thing.

Crazy times we’re living in. Takes awhile to get accustomed to these new conditions.

I thought I’d start killing it in my home gym with all the food and rest right at my fingertips. But no, my anxiety has been high, figuring out how to do 10 conference calls per day to keep business on track has been a nightmare honestly, etc. so my training has been average at best. This is HARD.

But, we all will accustom. It’s great news you have some equipment at home.

My advice, do much LESS work, but VERY high quality. Pick something simple. Maybe just one or two exercises per day and work up to a top set of something with reps. Keep your mind and body clear and don’t overwork the training at the moment.

@mortdk @IronOne @simo74 @Frank_C thanks guys. 3 days off now, so I’ll hit a few sessions and try and get back moving again. I will try and catch backup on logs soon, please bear with me.

Work for today:
Band/fatgripz lat pulldowns: 3 x 20 (thanks @TX_iron)

Kb Clean and Press 5 x 5 @ 16kg

4 rounds:
20 x kettlebell swings (36kg)
20 deficit push ups
~20m waiters walk (16kg kb)

Squat:
5 x 10 @ 70kg

Tried to keep pace high, partly for conditioning, partly because little man cried when he saw daddy leave. I have so many more toys in this garage than I remembered. Very excited for this training block if I can find time, especially if the sun keeps shining like this.

Good weather makes a huge difference (also makes idiots gather in groups, but nevermind.

Glad to see you’re still managing to get training. Assuming the little man is too little to join you in the gym yet?
