Haven’t front squatted in 4+ years so I picked a really conservative TM. Serves more as a bracing exercise more than anything.
As the others have said a light max will
Be fine. I guess the question is how different you think your current max is to your previous one.
I have no clue, but enough people have given me the answer I wanted to hear, I’m going with it. No max test for me.
Work for today:
Deadlift: 5 x 1 @ 135kg
Press:
5 x 40kg
5 x 45kg
5 x 50kg
Arnold press: 5 x 10
Complexes:
2 x row
2 x powerclean
2 x front squat
2 x push press
2 x back squat
5 rounds @ 60kg
Back squat:
10 x 80kg
26 x 80kg
14 x 80kg
Notes:
- Was really toying with pushing this session back but I hate to break up a plan. Lower back and quads just above the knees are calling me all sorts of names today. Strained something in my side sleeping on the coach. Throats swollen like golf balls and developed a smokers cough. Basically I’m falling apart.
- Deadlifts felt easy as anything, but then singles week normally does
- Press likewise felt easy, as it should on “5s week”. Got the start of a pressure headache on the first set but passed pretty quickly once I stretched my neck out.
- Complexes started feeling heavy, but felt ok by the end. Powerclean form is getting worse and worse though, and the push presses are push presses in name only. It’s more like a toddler trying to copy an O lifter at this point.
- I was really tentative going in to squats, hence the feelers set first. Felt like absolute shit, considered shutting it down on almost every rep to prevent injury. Did absolute bare minimum to qualify as progress and got out. Only one more 80kg “to fifty” to go until d-day when i have to try in 1 set.
- Session 10/14 done. Need to recover or this isn’t going to happen.
Weigh in tonight: 205lbs.
Probably “bulking” a bit too much, belly is definitely there. Legs are also starting to feel solid as fuck though, so I’ll take that. I’ll tighten up slightly on the cleanliness of food for the next 2 weeks, just to finish MMS, then start knocking a hundred calories or so a day off my excess days until I’m averaging a slight loss again.
Weigh in today: 202.8lbs. All shit though. Been aching and sore, can’t breathe, smokers cough and blood red eyes at the minute. And I can’t talk. Definitely been eating more than I should and moving less than I should.
If incandescent breathe, I’ll lift tomorrow, but it’s not looking promising.
Rest up. Your body won’t notice that you missed a couple sessions in the long run.
Just did the maths and probably a really good time for a deload anyway. Guess I’d better cut the food back a bit though
Do you smoke?
Not one, I just sound like it. Met a whole bunch of new colleagues yesterday sounding like I’ve got a 40 a day habit and with blood red eyes. Think i made a good first impression.
Ah, okay. Misleading description, haha. Normally I wouldn’t give two shits if somebody says they smoke and certainly wouldn’t say anything, but as a former smoker, and with how positive you are (and how much I enjoy you being on here), I’d have no problem calling you a fucking moron if you did ![]()
I’m still a fucking moron, I just find more creative ways.
Hope you get to feeling better. Do you have allergies?
Just people, mostly.
No, I’m usually pretty immune to everything, never used to get ill at all. I have a recurring glandular issue that I’ve never really got round to sorting, got an appointment booked for that, but other than that I’m usually pretty healthy.
Here this time of year we have what is called Cedar Fever. It kicks some people’s asses. A lot of the symptoms you described. Everybody here just pops a Claritin everyday like a vitamin…lmao
It’s possible, no idea. I don’t think it’s an allergy, just a bad cough and some sort of eye infection.
Hey my friend that was a tough one the other day.
It sounds like you need a bit of a deload right now.
MMS looks really hard to complete, but you’ve got yourself in a position were you really could do it.
I read this
as an answer to
and suffocated my laugh with a snort.
In my defense, it was in answer to that.
You’re Pushing yourself hard man. I went ahead and took an unplanned Deload this week. Normally I really look forward to the gym, but when all joy is drained from the thought I generally know it’s time for a small break.
If you take one, then you won’t finish so far before me lol.
Yep, deload time for me. It’s more a “I can’t breathe” issue really. Swollen tonsils and blocked nose probably don’t make for a good session of high rep squatting. I’ll give it a week, try and cut back on the food and chill. Likely to be my last deload until late March, so not terrible timing.
Plus, I know (delusionally) believe there’s actually a chance of me putting it out and managing that final set of 50, so I’d like to be pretty fresh for that.
