How close are you to 5/4/3/2 plates? I’m assuming this is DL/Sq/B/OHP?
That would definitely be impressive!
I just did 1/2/3/- at Christmas. Missed out on Deadlift 4 plate, but reasonably confident I’d have had it if fresh. I think its ambitious, but possible. 21 months to add 40kg to each lift.
We have the same goals, and weight increases needed.
Glad to know I’m not alone. What’s your plan of attack?
Edit: flicking through your log quickly, I’d say it’s almost a foregone conclusion that you’ll get there before me. Won’t stop me using it for motivation though
I’m running more squatting from 531 2nd edition, it’s full body, 5 on 2 off, with squatting every work out.
I’ve got the Deadlift, and think I can get the squat in about 9 months, but I’m terrible at pressing. I could be years off those.
I want to be able to do 5432 in the same session, or at least on the same day.
That’s what I did with my 4321 plates, and probably a big reason I missed the deadlift. That and the fact I only started training it half heartedly about 4 months before. Oddly, my deadlift target is the one I’m most confident about hitting. It’s always been my best lift, and it’s the only target I’ve definitely hit before (unclear on press, can’t remember how much leg drive, if any, I was using). I’m going to have to add some pretty serious mass to hit the other 3 though I think.
I was going to say this. Especially for the bench and press. Forty kilos in 18 months is a big stretch unless those are weights you’ve done before.
I haven’t hit any of those 3 before.
Deadlift I’m fairly confident on, its just regaining lost strength. The other 3, especially squat, will be mostly breaking new ground for me. In fact, I think I’m probably nearly at all time PR level with my squat already
I was thinking this too, especially given you are only training 2 days a week. I too would love 2 3 4 5 and this is definitely the longer term goal but I haven’t given myself a time limit for this. I am pretty confident the squat and deadlift will come with just hard work and time but a 3 plate bench at my size is going to be really tough i think.
I don’t think I’ll ever achieve this. If push press counts then I hit a 2 plate press once upon a time. My best bench is 305. I’m beginning to hope for a 3 plate squat nowadays. And I hope to have a 6 plate pull someday.
I don’t fit the mold. I’m going to be a 1.5/2.5/3.5/6 guy someday.
And how to you represent DB numbers in this world?
By DB numbers do you mean dumbell numbers for pressing ??
I agree that the 2 plate overhead without a push press is the one I think will be most challenging. I’d be happy to get that including leg drive and still tick the rest off.
Yes, DB = dumbbells.
Push press means leg drive but no dropping to catch it. It’s a strongman OHP. That counts, right? ![]()
I agree that push press is just leg drive not dropping to catch.
At my best (early 30’s when I thought i was a bodybuilder), I could DB bench 50kg dumbells for reps and bench press 125kg for reps. If I used the same ratios then a 140kg (3 plate) bench would be 112kg or 2 x 56kg dumbells. Maybe you could aim for 125lb dumbells.
Good call. I think the gym has 130s. I’ll make it my goal to rep those bad boys someday. But first, I must heal.
Work for today:
Bradford press
Face pulls - lots
Partial lateral raises - gotta hit them middle delts
Y-raises.
Quick session, try and get some more work in on my way home later.
How’s all Those daily push ups going ?
I took a break after the 2020 push up challenge wrecked my elbows.
I’ve been trying to do daily back work instead, because it seems like a bigger weak point, butnits slightly more limiting because I need some equipment to do it. I’ve still done “something” most days though, even if I haven’t logged it.
If I’m honest, its probably ingrained enough to do daily back work that I could do push ups as well now my elbows are feeling healthier.
Do you do any band work daily to keep your joints happy?
