I think high rep bw work, jogging/running, mobility and mobility-related skill work like progressing towards handstands/repping out pistol squat is enough to fulfill all of your goals. Do you have space to keep a barbell and some weights around? Just power clean and press the barbell all day long.

This is untrue

BUT the results make them more tolerable.

@simo74 thats what people told me about running, didn’t work though.

@carlbm that’s pretty much my thoughts. The immediate feedback of climbing better will motivate me far better than some distant ā€œlets be healthy when i’m 60ā€ goal. The second one is more important, but the first one will do the job better.

@magick you’re absolutely right, i could make it work. The problem is, i probably wouldn’t because of the reasons i stated above. I have no emotional attachment to calisthenics or running. I won’t run to get better at running because i don’t care about running. I’ll run to get better at climbing, because i care about climbing.

I may have space for a barbell and some weights, we’ll have to see. That’s the ideal solution.

I understand. Can’t continue to do something if there’s nothing that pulls you to it.
But, dude, burpees are seemingly magical. They somehow kept me fit enough to be able to jog an easy 2 miles even though I haven’t gone faster than a fast walk in nearly a year. I get why T3hPwnisher can just bust out 10+ mile jogs out of the blue now- he does so many varied and difficult conditioning that his body is always ready.

It’s why I can’t quit them anymore.

Also a big, big base of running miles a day, everyday for years.

But yes, the goal is to be physically capable of anything i want to do as i age and also to not get bored, so burpees are on the table, running is on the table, pull sleds are on the table, rowing machines, bodyweight circuits, hill sprints, metcons, swimming, assault bikes are all on the table.

In other news, we believe we have a move in date, so the next 2 weeks will be full, full, full. I’m not planning to train much at all, maybe some burpees if time allows. I’ll just allow my nutrition and caffeine to do their thing and lower my weight over this time then reassess and attack once the dust settles.

Also: @kdjohn we’ve been breaking down the turning kick with little man over the last few weeks, following your suggestions. After a week off with illness, today he came back to the class and did his first picture perfect kick in front of the instructor (which, honestly, puts him miles ahead of every other kid in the class, even the ones who outrank him by several belts). Thank you very much for your input.

Hey man looking like a climber doesn’t always have to be a bad thing:

Between him and Magnus MidtbĆø, there’s hope.

I so badly wanted to add a picture of Alex Honnold and Adam Ondra here, but that would have been cruel.

Funny though.

I’m very much hoping not to wake up one morning as 150lbs of gristle.

But, you could totally send it.

@SvenG @carlbm all good guys, just very busy mid move. Birthdays, moves, holidays, illnesses and some big projects at work have all come along at once so i’m not finding as much internet time as normal. Thanks for checking in. Normal service, or the new normal service, whatever that looks like, will be resumed around 24th.
