100% agree there.
Wait, what? Softball throw is a CrossFit event?
Wasnât that their championing motto? The jacks of all trades? I remember seeing original templates by glassman and skill work was supposed to be regular in the templates.
@kdjohn it was an event one year in the early days, back when they were trying to get ex-baseball player Rich Froning to win.
@cstan097 I get that, but if youâre going to call yourself âfittest on earthâ, surely you should be cutting out the party tricks and bullshit? If youâre going to include pure skill in there like handstand stuff, why not have juggling or chess in there?
When I saw this I immediately thought circus act juggling chainsaws and walking tightropes. Yeah I think it is kind of ridiculous especially the claim that they are the fittest on earth and the methods they use to determine that. Like couldnât you just keep it simple and test everything separately instead of throwing it into some kind of metcon. I guess that wouldnât sell as well though.
Strongman is becoming powerlifting, crossfit is becoming strongman, dogs and cats living together!
I donât have any issues with that, personally. Itâs the skill based stuff I donât like in there. Handstand walking, pegboards, and other moves in which skill is far more important than fitness. Puts me off.
@T3hPwnisher I would definitely get on board with Crossfit going strongman. A crossover meet with 3 strongman events and 3 metcons? Sign me up. 5k runs mixed with max log press in 90s? Sounds like a good time for all.
Thatâs what Iâm saying though: itâs already there. Itâs more about being a show vs a sport. Thatâs the origin of strongman.
I was going more for the mix of events angle. I hadnât really considered the âshowâ aspect.
Meanwhile, happy cake day.
