10 Miles Back Again

Definitely a thought. I did a messed up version earlier in the year and my main issue was powercleans in the rain. I have very limited space in my garage and I’m fairly comfortable pressing with a few inches clearance, not so much power cleaning which inevitably ended up with me doing my powercleans outside in the rain. Maybe something a pair of testicles might solve.

You could maybe substitute cleans with high pulls. That’s what I’m doing rn due to space limitations.
In my case I’m replacing snatches but still

My other suggestion would be Pendlay rows. But yeah, high pulls from the floor would be great too.

@kdjohn @Koestrizer I’ve never done high pulls before. Doable without bumpers or mats?

Yes. Use straps and in doubt you can go from a hang.

Ditto to this.

You can also catch the descent on your hip and slower lower to the floor. I’ve used iron plates on concrete my entire lifting career and always control the descent. Gives you some sneaky eccentric training too.

Catching up on your log, I’m surprised nobody asked about this.
A mile, you say? I’m trying to imagine a scenario… unless it just happens to be shaped like a trap bar?
Edit to add: I do a lot of weighted vest walks, and the vesg looks like a bulletproof vest, kinda… and I’m in Texas… and I am pretty sure some people misunderstand the nature of my walks.

I second doing them from the hang. I love snatch grip high pulls from the hang. I think they can develop power and the yoke everyone desires.

@Koestrizer @kdjohn @Frank_C thanks guys, gave them a try today. I can definitely see the value here.

@jdm135 it’s a cheap bunk bed made from tubular metal framing. Because I’m without a car right now, my father in law took the mattresses in his car and I packaged the framing into a “convenient” package that was about half the size of a single bed and carried it the mile or so home. I definitely got some odd looks though.

Work for today:
Superset (5 rounds)
60kg press and carry (~20m with turn)
15 swings (24kg)

Snatch Grip Hang High Pull:
10 reps @ 60kg

Couch to 5k, W4D1

Notes:

  • Really like this press and carry combo. I can’t program it because it relies on dry weather, but I definitely feel the benefits here. Its basically a single press, then an overhead carry. Also a chance to get my daily swings in.
  • High pulls seem to do a good job. I think I could really push the weight higher on these. Will have a look at the Morning Star template later and see if that makes sense or whether I want to be stubborn and stick to my original idea of Full Body Full Boring.
  • Running took a big step up, nice lady got sworn at a lot today. The running itself did feel easier though, so she probably knows what she’s talking about.

Maybe as an orientation point: My coach swapped out 60 kg power snatches for 80 kg snatch high pulls from the hang.

Well that confuses me slightly because 60kg was fairly easy, so I was looking at around the 80kg mark as well but i notice you’re much much stronger than me so I’m not sure how that’s going to shake out.

The focus needs to be maximal acceleration. I could maybe do 100 kg through the same range of motion but I’m not sure I would get the desired effect. This is not meant to tax me too much and is done before my main strength lift. So it probably depends on what you’re trying to get out of the exercise.
Also if we use me as a n=1, my overall strength is probably a poor indicator for how much weight I can use here because I tend to do poorly with speed/ power exercises, as evidenced by my barbell clean (in relation to other strength markers that indicate, I should be able to clean more weight).

Gotcha. I’ll probably have a little play tomorrow then and see what makes sense as part of the whole program.

Definitely. Nothing set in stone and this is a perfect opportunity to have some fun in any program (that’s how I interpret my weightlifting elements anyway)

Some really cool strongman/crossfit style of shit you’re doing. noting it down ahahah!

Even if it’s off by a few pounds, this still looks like crazy good progress, nice!

Not to bring you down or whatever but I’m can’t comprehend how you squat 110 x 20 which is amazing, but when you run it’s at around 10’ per kilometer? I couldn’t run that slow for the life of me ahahah.

Appreciated. The thinking is very much “how do I get a lot of work done in not very long”.

Feedback is a gift man.

There’s a few factors at play here:

  1. I’m disproportionately good at high rep squats
  2. I don’t time my runs properly. I start timing from the moment I put my running wanker arm band on to the moment I take it off, so it always includes a lot of not running, in this particular case it includes the entire workout before as well.
  3. The couch to 5k app I have uses an interval style approach so even if I did time from the start of the workout to the end, there’s still a lot of walking included. This particular session only included 16 mins of actual running.
  4. I am shockingly unfit. Your assessment that I run slow is absolutely valid and true, hence why I need to do a running program designed for inactive middle aged housewives.

It’s way more than a few pounds out. Way more. Somethings gone very wrong with that measurement, but as long as I’m still in the 100s club this Sunday, I’ll be happy.

This explains things!

And no, certainly not unfit lol, just “aerobically deconditioned” ahahah!

I’m hopping ont he cardio train as well, which I won’t skip this time. 45’ slow run today, with jelly as legs. Let’s do this man :muscle:

I’ve probably been in half decent Cardio shape for about 0.5 of my 34 years so I’ve got a fair bit of catching up to do there. 10 miles back indeed.

I admire your use of “half” in one part of the sentence and “.5” in the other. Very British.
