Back squats were the clusters. Paused front squats were the planned supplemental, although I was planning to push the weight as much as I could on them.

That sounds pretty scary man. Maybe a good thing I didn’t try front squats without safeties.

Having ripped many many trousers (although not in such an epic way) I can vouch for two things, material track suit (like cotton type not polyester/shell suit type they’re rippers) and football shorts - shorter the better (although I’m not sure that makes a difference in ripping, but who doesn’t like short shorts?!)

Nope, ripped them jumping over the wooden fence things at the beach. I partly blame the cheap material and the tumble dryer for that one though.

I wouldn’t have suggested wearing them outside of training (or outside in public!).

It only happened once though in many years. Now I do them on the power station, with bumper, so I can drop it if needed. Or just to look like badass like after my last 1rm

There’s always a bigger fish: frankenstein squats. My true nightmare (or BSS lol with a 4 secs eccentric and a 2 secs pause at mid range. Or the set of walking lunges to failure in Colossus.)

Nooooo I know. This week: tempo front squats, sets of 3 at 70% with a 5 secs eccentric AND CONCENTRIC

I was considering asking people on here to pick my supplemental stuff for me every 3 weeks, to avoid me pussying out of doing the right thing.

If I do that, I’m letting you know now, you’re banned. I’m not doing any of those awful suggestions.

The Fastest way to get jacked. You have 5 secs eccentric and concentric RDL, back squats… (perhaps even in the same session if I remember)

One takeaway from today’s posts is that it might be cool to chase one thing for the Committed Challenge. And I like your idea of press. :thinking:

Mate there are heaps of better options for Training shorts that have some stretch and won’t rip. Hell even a cheap pair of footie shorts will work. Getting floored by the bar doesn’t sound nice mate I hope the only thing you’ve bruised Is your ego!!

@aldebaran I have some ideas, but I’ll probably try and switch my supplemental up every few weeks, so it might be interesting to see what other people would do. Might find an absolute gem.

@Frank_C it’s actually pwns idea that I’ve just decided to apply to the Committed challenge. It makes total sense for me.

@simo74 I’m feeling a bit battered and bruised, but nothing serious I don’t think. Just hoping the strain across my chest doesn’t stop me pressing tonight, it was definitely uncomfortable picking the little lady up yesterday.

How about the first week of Pendulum Bodybuilding? 5 second tempo seems like a vacation comparatively!

@Voxel @aldebaran I am starting to lean slightly towards “bodybuilding” methods for assistance stuff. It’s not really a world I’m very familiar with, so it will be baby steps.

@guineapig I don’t think the world needs to see me in tights.

Press:
3 x (5 × 1) @ 60kg

T-bar row:
8 x 3 @ SW

BtN Z-press:
2 x 15 @ 30kg

Dips (ss. Pull ups):
3 x failure

Overhead triceps extensions: some
Side partial lateral raises: some
Cable lateral raises: also some
Y-raises: also some
Rear delt hang and swing destroyer set.

Notes:

  • Really happy with the clusters to start. All fairly comfortable, with minimal strain or grind, at a weight that was a 1RM going into this block
  • Not impressed with either heavy T-bar rows or BtN Z-press (I know that isn’t a real thing), didn’t quite do what I wanted.
  • Dips where also a disappointment due to doing them after too much pressing and being out of practice.
  • Other stuff was just stuff. Was happy to notice that I looked halfway jacked while doing the cable lateral, which was nice, even if untrue.

It’s 5050 so 10 secs and yeah I just checked this program. Pretty everything will seem easy afterwards ahahah

I read about destroyer sets years ago, and used to use them quite a bit. Seem to fit pretty well with what I’m doing at the minute so I decided to bring them back. Probably need to start looking into more bodybuilding type stuff and actually planning assistance for this stuff a little more carefully.

It can be made to seem very complex, but I don’t believe that it has to be. Unless you want to understand the how and the why, it can be genuinely simple. I’ve gone from viewing it as voodoo, to having a decent intellectual grasp of it, to feeling an intuition for it. It’s helped me understand a lot of successful programs, even if the author doesn’t make specific mention of their rationale I can reverse engineer the intent.
