1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs. So if someone was to drink 2 gallons of water, they would have a weight of +16 lbs (until they pee)?
I would think that it would be real hard on the bladder to hold a gallon much less two gallons of water. I have a hard time drinking 2 liters without feeling real uncomfortable. But, I known some fighters that have drinken large amounts of water to sometimes make weight if they were under.
Nearly, but you are constantly losing water due to sweat and evaporation (although probably not a significant amount if resting). I do not see it being possible to keep 2 gallons of water in your body, if you try i would think you would fall a victim to cell lysis.
Your state of hydration can fluctuate somewhat, but drinking a ton of water without replenishing sodium, potassium and other water soluble nutrients isn’t going to be helpful…
A woman recently died after drinking nearly two gallons of water without peeing in order to win a wii from a radio station. I suppose she may have been 16 pounds heavier at the time of death. The death occurred because she drank the water quickly, not spread throughout the day.
Do not try this stunt at home.

Have you ever tried drinking a whole gallon of water?

Yes…not at one time if that is what you’re asking…but through the day…you bet
You would most certainly die if you tried to drink 2 gallons without peeing.
Don’t do it.

I really doubt it but anything is possible, more if your body is not used to it. Honestly I’ve seen big guys bring a gallon of water with them do to gym. They drink the whole thing while they are there no problem.
I know when I’m on ephedrine I get some hardcore dry mouth. I’d say I drink about 1.5 gallons a day of water. Did’nt realize how much a gallon was in pounds. A little shocked when I goggled it this morning and found it was over 8 lbs.
With enough salt - potassium - magnesium supplements one could hold a lot more of the water correct?
1 gallon is 10 1/2 beers (12oz.)without taking a piss. Not too likely.
I don’t think he was asking if it was healthy or not, or even stating that he would do it. He just asked if you would weigh that much more which you would.

That was all over the news radio station I listen to in my area.
Drinking too much water too fast can be a bad thing.
I hope you are kidding because that question is supremely stupid. If you are then I guess I am daft for not recognizing it.
And BTW it’s not possible to drink two gallons of water at once.

Here’s one hoping the OP tries it.

I love your measuring analogy.
I’m not too sure; I drank 112shots of beer in 112 minutes (playing century club, except we kept going until there was only one person left). The rules were that you couldn’t puke and could only piss twice to stay in the contest (which i did), so I dunno how much liquid was let out each time. Keep in mind though, that prior to this I’d already drank over 3 litres of water throughout the day, so I’m pretty sure in the 45 seconds before i puked (after drinking the winning 112 shots) I was holding around 10 lbs in extra water. We used 1 1/2 oz shot glasses, so that’s over a gallon in beer easily (168 oz).

I tried it a few years ago, and it was pure hell. I finished it in ~20-25 min, and proceeded to vomit and urinate continously. I had to pee every 10-15 min for the next couple hours.
I remember weighing myself beforehand at 133.5 lbs, and weighing 141.5 after finishing it. By the next morning I only weighed 131. Now that is some good old fashioned weight flucuation.

Hey chrisrodx,
In terms of the dudes that drink a gallon throughout a workout, those guys are doin’ some serious sweating too, no? Also, they probably don’t require QUITE that much. But what the hell do I know.
Unless trying to make a wieght class for something I would think drinking so much at one time would never be benificial in any way.
As far as drinking THOUGHOUT the day, that’s a completely different story - but it is possible to overdrink. Cuz you’d lose too much micronutrients. (but you knew that)
I would think that the more sodium you consume, the more water you would actually absorb… Generally.
in answer to your actual question, if an indivual took in 2 gallons of water, without sweating or urinating, they would weigh approximately 16 pounds more.
The crutial factor is the amount of time… Anybody can drink 2 gallons in 2 days.
But 2 gallons in 2 minutes could feasably kill you, according to what happened to that chick trying to get her wii. what a shitty way to go.
Man, I thought way too hard on this subject. I’m going to go eat some tuna and contimplate my navel for a while.
I easily polish off a gallon in a 45 minute cardio session at the gym. I feel slightly bloated afterward but very well hydrated. But that doesn’t really count because I can wring out my shirt with sweat when I’m done.
I’ve witnessed my younger brother drink 1 gallon of 2% milk in 11 minutes which was pretty unbelievable.
If you really are curious about the water consumption, go talk to construction workers. Most of them in the summer go through water like its going out of fashion, true they are sweating rivers. But they can put the water away. Over the summer I know i go over board on the water taking in close to 20 liters a day. I know its alot and it could even possibly be harmful, but it helps me to stay cool and my ass doesnt drag as much at the end of the day. really the amount of water needed or taken in at any time depends on your circumstances.
