I think that is a very real possibility, but it will be balanced against how much Trump–and support of Trump by stte reps-- hurts the perception of the party as a whole on November 8th. For my part, I think Trump damages the GoP runs in battleground states. I doubt the data will be analyzed, but I think anybody who expressed support for him will take damage, except perhaps in very very solid red districts that would have certainly gone Trump anyway.
Yes. Speaking for myself here, not a representative of all LDS - I know a lot of people in the NeverTrump and NeverHillary camps.
There is a fairly strong Libertarian streak among Mormons. Freedom (think free will) is a core value of our religion. It’s interesting because as a people we give generously to charitable causes both within the church and in general humanitarian aide worldwide, but we believe there is a fundamental difference in doing something voluntarily, and being forced. We want to help the poor, and we do that very effectively with our own welfare and humanitarian aid programs, but we don’t want someone forcing us to do it.
Also, many LDS people speak a foreign language and have spent time in foreign countries serving missions where they tend to fall in love with the people. The church has grown tremendously in places like Mexico and South America. And of course, we’re a religious minority that has faced persecution ourselves. If you are unfamiliar, our history includes a military order signed by the Governor of Missouri in 1838, directed that the Mormons be driven from the state or exterminated. Bigotry regarding refugees and immigrants do not play well at all with Mormons. That’s not so say we support open borders, or having immigration laws we don’t enforce, but bigotry toward minorities is not going to resonate. The church is very involved in aid to refugees in Europe and the Middle East. My congregation is currently collecting blankets and other supplies.
About Johnson and polls - I believe Johnson is polling strongly among the military. I saw a poll with Johnson getting 37% of the military/ military families vote.
Interesting poll from Virginia, “Hillary leads the state in a contest with Trump 52-30, but when you add Johnson her favorability with millennials falls to 34% while Johnson takes 27% and Trump plummets to 23%.” I believe Johnson polls high among millennials in several other state polls.

Speaking to a point raised by a poster above, I think this is a positive for other Repubs on the ticket or at least those willing to disavow Trump.
Looking at an electoral map, there is no probable way he wins this election nor has there ever been.

It gives me an understanding of the dynamics in Utah. I was always scratching my head that someone like Huntsman…who came from the “most conservative State in the Union”…appealed so much to me (and others on PWI) when he was running…or why such a conservative State would reject Trump.
I will say this…Conservatism in Utah ain’t what Conservatism is in Mississippi, that’s for sure. (And I say this is a positive way for those in Utah).

It’s a funny thing. I keep being shouted at by friends, coworkers, pundits and jackasses like Sean Hannity that if Hillary wins, it my fault because I don’t want to vote for Trump.
However, it seems more obvious to me that the those same people who voted in the primary for Trump are the reason Republicans are bound to lose.

It is. One thermonuclear power is trying to install a ragged puppet at the head of another. Meanwhile it’s moved Iskander-M (nuclear-capable) missiles to Kaliningrad, from which position a new Baltic exclave would be quickly and easily defensible with tactical nuclear weapons. There is little doubt in my mind that that is precisely what will happen if Trump is elected president. Sudden riots in the placid capital city. Plainclothes paramilitary troops amassing in the shadows. A good excuse, and there you have it.
At that point it will be on the British, French, and Germans to decide whether the world will yield the opening moves to a new expansionist empire or risk the kind of war you’ve only ever seen in the movies.
You are hoping for all this to happen, and I think this excuses the cynical enjoyment it gives me to tell you that, because you are a bumbling Jew-hating loon, I know to a moral certainty that you live a miserable and unsuccessful life.
