You Learn Something Every Day

I learned that on Myth Busters. [/quote]

However, the duration you are in the rain will decrease by 50%.

I too once thought as you did. Then I found out how difficult the bastard is to clean, and how easily they’re broken and… no. You go your way, but I’m sticking with the jug.

Jews of any extraction (Ashkenazim (Russia, Germany, Poland etc), Sephardic (Spain and its colonies), and Sephardic/Mizrahim (most recently from Israel/Middle East) are much more likely to be left-handed than the human population at large.

This proclivity was noted in the Book of Judges, where a unit of 700 left handed Benjamite warriors were used to great effect, akin to putting in a left-handed pitcher or a left-handed boxer against right-handers who didn’t know how to deal with it.

Other semetic people(e.g., arabs, especially arabs in Jordan/Syria/Judea) have a higher incidence of left-handedness, as well.

This is also probably why Hebrew and Arabic are written left-to-right (because ink — especially with a quill or marks in a clay tablet would get smeared easier if written right-to-left).

++++

Left-handed people are also markedly more likely to be crazy. This explains why so many of my tribe vote for Democrats, against their best interest.

++++

And yes, I am left-handed. As is Mrs. Jewbacca. 3 of 4 of our children are left-handed. (A higher incident than normal, due to left-handedness being genetic.)

Now about that “let stand for 5 min” part. Is that just a suggestion?
I like my coffee HOT

If you let the boiling water stand for 5 minutes, then let it seep for 5 minutes, then pour creamer into your coffee, it will be luke warm at best.

There are commercial plane flights that are about 19 hours (example: Singapore Airlines Flights 21 and 22 between Singapore and Newark, New Jersey)… Good god…

Why? That’s like the worst part of coffee. I hate how fucking hot it always is. I order some coffee, and I put it up to my lips and it’s just scalding fucking hot! And I’m like “I can’t drink this, it’s too hot! I’ll have to wait like 10 minutes to drink this damn coffee. If I wanted coffee in 10 minutes I would have come here 10 minutes later. I want to drink coffee now! Why would you make it so hot?”

Which explains why Jews have been characterized as “left-wingers” throughout recent history, and “sinister” throughout more distant history.

Sinister being Latin for “left”.

Hot and scalding are way different. I like my coffee hot not tongue rape hot but also not body temp warm.

Huh?

I don’t understand this either. Unscrew the plunger, throw it and the beaker in the dishwasher, done.

Or. Unscrew the plunger, wipe with a sponge, rinse the beaker in the sink.

And… they also make non-glass ones.

Basic french press recipe:

Put water on burner, turn on to high. Put a meat thermometer out the spigot of the kettle.

Coarse grind as much coffee as you want, ideally with a burr grinder. Put it in the french press/cafatiere. I probably use something like a tablespoon per 6oz of water or something, but these days I just eyeball it. Some coffees I like stronger, some I don’t.

Wait until water hits 195 and remove from heat. (Or, alternately, heat until it just starts boiling, then remove and let it sit for 15-30 seconds.)

Pour water over coffee. Give it a couple stirs. Chopsticks work great for this. Set timer for 4 minutes.

When the timer goes off, press the plunger and pour out the coffee.

Rinse everything off and put away.

Using a coffee filter strips away the natural oils from the beans. Using the boiling or french press type method gives it more and a bolder flavor.

Do it! The first time I did coffee like this was during a power out, so I used the gas stove to boil the water, then let it steep with the grounds in a pitcher and poured through a fine strainer.

Has a nice citrusy tanginess and a really full deep aromatic flavor. Something good happens that you just don’t get from a perk, drip or press.
