Amazing. What the fuck with disallowing US goals for bullshit off-sides calls?
I bet the American fans are convinced the international refs don’t want to see the US advance. I’d believe it at this point.
And what’s up with Altidore getting all this attention and Dempsey not getting any?
Dempsey definitely shook up the Algerian defense more than once. He deserves way more mention than he’s getting, as much if not more than Altidore, in my opinion.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind an England-Germany matchup, after Beckenbauer’s trash talking. If England builds on this game, they could turn out to be a force to be reckoned with in this World Cup, and it’s surely just a matter of time til Rooney comes alive. Of course, my preffered scenario would be that Germany doesn’t make it out of their group, but that’s probably too much to ask for…
Way to go Yanks!! Y’all showed more grit, determination, hard work and perseverance than any other team at this world cup. Donovan is a world class player and if his spell at Everton didn’t convert the skeptics out there regarding his ability and heart, then this tournament surely will.
And the obligatory congratulations to England as well. They have improved only MARGINALLY from their previous games, but at this rate they won’t make it past the round of 16. Capello needs to use Rooney as a central striker, what the eff was he doing on the wing??
I think Donovan’s goal could be one of the biggest in US soccer history. Not only does it advance us to the next round, but it satisfies the record number of American viewers that have tuned in to see if US soccer is really worth supporting.
This was truly a make or break year in the progression and growth of US soccer from the average sporting fans point of view, and the amazing extra time strike has succeeded in showing our country that soccer is truly a beautiful game.
Maybe now that we have a decent squad that has performed quite admirably when all eyes were on them, America will learn to love the game as the rest of the world does. I know it will take years, but this could very well be the spark that we needed.
Just heard the funniest commentary from Jay Moore who called into the Jim Rome Show. He was talking about how the french ddin’t practice because the coach yelled at a player and then how they lost. He goes. “Leave it to the french, to surrender to themselves” LOL one of the best lines I have ever heard.
