Wishing Someone's Death: Ever Morally Acceptable?

I have super, super, super easy access to 55 gallon drums of sulfuric and muriatic acid at my job, along with drum dollies and hours that would allow me to cart one out without being seen. Make of that information what you will.

Sometimes I wish we had a T-Nation video chat system or something. So many fascinating discussions going on, but I hate typing at length.

Morality is a very strange topic because there are so many factors that can play into it. Societal, personal, religious, cultural, etc etc. If you adhere to a preexisting set of morals, such as exists in a religion, then when a question of morality is presented you can easily find the answer. If your “moral compass” is self-created… then can anyone really answer the question for you if a thought or deed is “morally” acceptable?

If I’m what we’ll call a “survivalist”, and all I care about is my own survival (as seen in nature), and I find no qualms in killing others, taking their possessions, fucking whoever I please, and using whatever resources are at my disposal to ensure I survive, am I immoral? Certainly to many in a multitude of societies I would be, but that’s because their morals differ from mine. But why should their morals trump mine? Who decides that?

Which the begs the question: do morals even exist? And if so, who decides what set of morals are correct? A certain individual? A society? A higher being?

Basically, it’s a topic that could go on forever with no resolution and I’m rambling now and am tired of typing.

Me too. I work for a chemical manufacturing plant. It is crazy how many times people almost mix an acid with chlorine.

No chlorine here. Acid for chemical etching and stripping chrome off plated cylinders, and solvents for cleaning the copper before we chrome plate it, Still plenty of combustible shit, just requires more of an effort to kill yourself that way. We have plenty of lathes and polishmasters that cut copper like butter to a 2-3 micron tolerance in diameter, so there are plenty of easy ways to get yourself hurt.

Lupara bianca.

A funny thought occurred to me, and I don’t know how accurate it is but here goes:

It’s almost as if some people in this thread are morally offended at the idea that an idea could ever be a moral offense

I didn’t laugh or even smile, but I got a funny feeling that someone might

On a similar note, I don’t understand what @zecarlo is tryina do with those Italian stereotypes. I don’t get triggered, I’m usually amused by them and most I’ve heard were accurate too. But this time I just didn’t get the references or what the joke was supposed to be lol

He’s Italian fwiw. Pretty sure he’s not trying to offend you

Oh that changes everything lol

Anyhow, I didn’t think he was trying to offend me but rather to be funny about something I didn’t get. And I still don’t get it but that’s probably me haha

Id say it is morally acceptable especially if you hate that person. However you shouldnt set their house on fire, I think it’s illegal.

A double reference to both facism and organized crime, if I were to guess.

I was making a joke about getting rid of someone, Southern Italian style. And I was not trying to offend you. I’m also not saying you should have him killed. I’m lightheartedly saying you shouldn’t feel bad about thinking the world, and even the individual in question, would be better off if he were dead.
