You got it right, Anderson, it is Gewurtztraminer. It’s German.
One of the bonuses of working at a restaurant with a great wine list is trying some great wines for free. Not to mention Oregon is Pinot Noir country.
Uh, fitone, I wasn’t talking about rich people being snobs. I was talking about how some people who are seriously interested in wine become snobs about it; its the same way that most t-maggers are physique snobs. My point actually was that you don’t need a lot of money to enjoy wine…I’m a busboy and I could be a wine snob if I wanted to, I just don’t want to invest the engery in refining my tastes to any extreme degree.
Boster Barrister: That Cline Zin is a monster as far as zins go…I usually find them a bit too fruity, but thats a solid wine for 20 bucks. The resto where I work has a few bottles of Turley Zin which I wouldn’t find stealing, but they’d probally take it off my cheque.
I hate almost all alcoholic beverages except wine (I detest all shots and beers in general except Remy shots only when I’m clubbing and trying to get buzzed very fast).
I favor Chardonnay, Riesling, Zinfandel, or Cab, depending on what I’m eating with it. I’m not too big on sparkling wine as of yet; haven’t found one that I really like yet. The sad thing is I can’t drink much at once due to my ridiculously low tolerance for alcohol, esp. when I’m flying int’l cuz it really messes me up (the most horrific jet lag although I’m very much used to jet lag now and don’t feel it much). Right now I have about 16 bottles of unopened wine…I really need to start drinking… ![]()
Anderson & Kim,
Went to Napa twice last year. I loved it there.
Sinsky is very nice. I found a very good bottle of crisp chardonnay altho I don’t think they have it anymore.
Another good place to visit is Sattui. It has a nice picnic ground and sells cheese, pate, fruits, crackers, etc. (Basically everything you shouldn’t eat if you’re dieting) Driving is the best so you can go to the places you want to visit.
All San Fran hotel concierges have a good guide book (or two or three) on Napa, so it shouldn’t be that bad to find places to visit.
