Widowmaker Challenge Thread

Well someone’s got to go first…

Rather than start an “introduce myself and get ridiculed thread”, I’ll post me failing at this challenge and get ridiculed. Part of my motivation today was the self-imposed threat to post whatever happened.

I’ve been lifting seriously since about March, and weighed in at 215 this afternoon. A few warm-up sets, and I set up 215 on the bar, and gave it a shot.

At around 12, I started playing head-games, about how far 20 seemed. After 15 I wanted to rack it, but stepped back, and decided not to quit. I could have maybe pushed 16 back up, but my form went, and I decided to save my back.

The big negative is how shitty it feels to have failed myself.

The positive is that that shitty feeling will drive me to get those extra 5 reps next time.[/quote]

Hey man - great attempt! Get it next time!

Finally a man. Thank you Chilli for posting a vid, respect and I’m sure you’ll get it next time.

As for everyone else that has posted in marzo’s challenge thread and this one, let me just say the level of insecurity demonstrated by you all is beyond belief. Marzo’s original idea was a good one and 11 pages later it had vids from two people (props to greg and meat) in it, people that didn’t actually make the vids as part of any challenge, but at least they posted something.

That’s pathetic. It actually makes me angry that out of all the people who posted their interest or their input or talked shit (people with post counts in the hundreds and thousands) that only Chilliwack actually made a video of any kind with him attempting a challenge. A guy with 9 posts was the first person to actually step up to the plate and BE A MAN.

Fuck it’s obvious from the vid he didn’t even practice that shit before and he still put it up, and you chicken shits who have probably been trolling this site for years couldn’t even come up with 1 challenge vid in 11 plus pages of garbage. You Chilli, are a man among boys. I say again, THE INSECURITY HERE IS PATHETIC.

Sorry if I offended you, I’m sure you’re all great guys and everything, maybe I just thought gym rats would behave better or something, but before you hit reply and flame me, consider just putting up a vid and let that do the talking, you’ll gain a lot more respect in everyones eyes that way.

This is my first post on this site and I can guaran-fucking-ty you that if I ever post here again it will be a vid of me doing some of these challenges that were talked about, some of them sound pretty cool.

I would hope so, because right now you sound like a hypocritical, whinny fucking douchebag posting under his second or third screen name.

now, your post was worthless, ill timed and out of place. Shit talking is typically reserved for those that have public progress, so run along now child.

I didn’t think it was you.

Okay, enough of the off topic bullshit

So to explain what happened here, I usually hit box squats during my deload weeks, and thought I’d take on the challenge. I started the set with the intention to hit 20, but I only made it to 15 before I bitched out and called it quits. On a side note, I’ve never filmed my box squats before and thought I had been hitting parallel this whole time, but after the video realized I’ve been about an inch above parallel the whole time. Face Palm.

Ahh yes, video never lies haha.

Can we strap in for deadlift widowmakers?

Glad I saw it on film, but kind of wish I hadn’t. I felt like a much bigger bad ass 30 seconds before I hit the playback button on the camera. Now I feel worthless…I’ve been using the same box for over a year.

Lol well don’t worry man, you are most of the way there. Dropping those extra inches will be fairly easy I think.

BW (215) Squat x 21, because I couldn’t keep count, completed after working up to a 15# deadlift PR.

Video uploading now, I’ll post it in the morning.

Come at me, bros.

Full credit to everyone taking part in this challenge. It makes me queasy just thinking about. Full strength to all of you.

Does watching this count as doing the challenge?

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww SHIT!!! This is most definitely right up my alley!!! Gotta find my video camera. Will post vids next week while I’m TDY. Here comes the boom!!!

Hey I meant to put on my video that I was attempting the 1.5 x bodyweight on the squat. I weigh about 240-245 depending on the day, so I went with 365. Great job to anybody who can get all 20. I’ll give it another shot in a month when I am on another deload week.

Here’s the vid. Took me long enough, but holy shit, this was hard. Don’t they say to pick a weight you can barely hit 10 reps with, and go for 20?

Well, as a guy who doesn’t do reps over 5 usually, this was insane. I thought I died for a minute, haha. No way I can so a 1.5BWx20, I could probably MAYBE hit it for 1.

215(bw)x21

Awesome, Ink!

Thanks man. I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t think I was going to make it a few times. After 10, I was like “holy shit, that’s only half way? My lower back is on fire already, legs are getting numb I think” but after doubting myself the next 7 reps, I starting thinking “3 more…2 more…1 more…DEATH!”

Nice job ink. That looked like death.

That reminds me, I just updated my will. Maybe I’ll have a crack at it.

I don’t know o_s-- I saw your vid in the O35 challenge thread. I don’t know if I could do that with that weight!!! lol awesome.

Steely, you have committed a cardinal sin with this thread so far. Where’s your vid, big man?

You can’t throw out a challenge and then not take it yourself.
