Why, why, why...

I come from a Portuguese family. Here’s the thing:

Everytime I see my mother talking with a friend - on the phone or in person - they are ALWAYS talking about who died. It’s “So and so died” followed by “Oh, you know who else died - so and so”, followed by “It was their time”, and so forth and so forth ad infinitum.

AGGGHHHHH, will SOMEBODY stop the insanity??? Portuguese women seem to ALWAYS have to talk about who died and make themselves miserable. Portuguese men dont give two shits, but goddamn these women. They do know how to cook, but when they talk about death, dying, who died, for 4 hours straight - literally - several days a week, it just comes out as very sick.

Sheesh. God Bless the USA, if for nothing other than for females who’d rather bang than talk about who died.

Just had to rant.

diesel23, I also come from a portuguese family and i’ve noticed the same thing. Someone always seems to be either sick or dead. Here’s another strange thing I’ve noticed about portuguese families, they spend all this money buying these huge houses only to end up renovating their basements and spending all their time down there.

I think it’s a cultural trend.

I remember when I was a kid and first moved to Portugal at 4 yrs old. ALL houses in the village we’d moved to were one step away from corrals. Well, my dad built the biggest fuckin house with the biggest damn gardens in the whole town (which is actually interesting, as he designed it and built it all himself with his friends’help without any education beyond the 4th grade - that house still amazed some architects who would ‘ooooh’ and ‘ahhhh’ at how clever he was at building it). Anyhow, the town noticed how advanced our house was. Needless to say our next neighbor built a house which was nearly identical to ours. 1 year later, my friend’s dad built a house which was the exact mirror image of ours - but slightly bigger. It was interesting watching all these houses that looked just like ours sprouting up all over the place, bigger and bigger - and remember ours was 3 stories high, with enough space to divide it into 6 reasonably sized apartments, and 2 huge gardens complete with Palm trees, roses, and a whole bunch of Fancy trees. I dunno, I guess they had something to prove. Within a few years of our house being built, 5 identical houses sprouted up in the same street - which is to say a lot considering how long it took to build each (sometimes over a year), and how artixtic they were to a degree, covered with artistic tiles, and with interesting paint schemes, and so forth.

It was all show, however, as everybody was spending money they didnt have building these houses, while they couldnt afford dinner for their families.

And now the showoff equivalent to the Portugese house fest has been affecting car owners (Mods)…

People do have original priorities… showoff before eating and quality of life… living for showoff… interesting… and bizarre… must have been a useful behavior in the evolution of species somewhere…

The Parade…coming to a neighborhood near you… (Twilight Zone music in the background)

End Hijack

thats funny because with hispanic families is usually shit talking.
