Every single nation trades liberty for security. You have the TSA, you can’t own SAM missiles. You can’t even smoke weed without facing time in a cage. You can’t do millions of things a truly free man could because you are not insane, so you cap total freedom for security.
You can’t import yellow cake, you can’t hunt squirrels on the street, you have to have a hunting permit.

Yes people generally travel to the newly conquered land with emerging trade routes, not to places already inhabited for thousands of years where they just left. There tends to be lots of opportunity when Europeans massacre the natives and gain access to a resource rich, trade hub.

I think the reality of trading liberty for security is universal. I was exaggerating to point out the logical absurdity of never trading liberty for security. First you find trading liberty for security anathema, then you don’t mind it for obvious cases.
If we can both agree liberty and security need to be in a balance, then why make out that universal healthcare is some huge breach of liberty. You as an American only pay slightly less than me as a European but you also have to pay for health insurance on top of that.
If you really can’t bare taxation for healthcare why can you bare it for a military that cut into 1/4 of its current size would smash the world 10x over?
When I moved to the states people in Canada would say to me "oh crap things are going to get expensive and dangerous for you now that you don’t get free health care "
