It was discovered in letters that she wrote, that Mother Theresa lost her faith in God almost the entire time she was doing the work that made her so well known and till the end of her life I believe. It made her depressed as as fuck but she continued to help people, simply to help them. I think that says more about her character and dedication than if she had done the same thing with the advantage of faith. She went from being externally influenced by dogma and believing that there is some intrinsic objective meaning to everything to being driven by her own will.
Makavali I’m curious as to why you called her a disgusting person, do you know something that I dont?

Yes, really. All the internet “I’m not afraid of death!” poetic bullshit in the world doesn’t change that.

Don’t use Hitler. He had his own thing going. Use Lenin.

LOL, you honestly believe every single person on this planet is afraid of dying?

No. A person could have biological/mental issues preventing natural survival mechanisms (such as fear of death) from operating. If you want to see organisms that I’m pretty confident don’t have a fear of death, you’ll need a microscope.
Because our little egos think we’re more important than we are and are attached to the material world.
Remember before you were born? That’s what death is like. I don’t remember it being particularly scary.

Oh wow, what an excellent debating style you have. You really know how to back up your personal opinion with facts and ideas.
No wonder you amassed over 5000 posts, yet I have never heard of you before.

Your wit cuts to the bone, sir. My internet popularity is lacking, whatever shall I do?

Hmm, you read wit where none was intended. And it’s nothing to do with your popularity. Just that fact that you are apparently unable to debate a subject, merely state your opinion as fact. Boring.

What’s to debate? That you’re really a robot? That the evolutionary imperative for survival skipped you?
IF they believe in that none sense, then they KNOW that they may not go to their paradise.
Maybe they misunderstood the rules and are instead going to the BAD place.

Interesting perspective, because I suspect that I actually possess more tools for my survival than you do. BBB[/quote]
Obviously you don’t. You don’t even claim to possess the most fundamental tool for survival, a fear of death.
Edit: Next, you’ll describe all the survival skills and tools you’ve gathered to yourself. Which only shows that you do fear death, to the extent of preparing yourself as much as possible to avoid it.
I don’t fear death itself, ceasing to exist. I fear how it will happen and if it will be dragged out or with pain.

Really? I obviously disagree. Just because you wet yourself at the thought of non-existance, doesn’t mean we all do.
I personally came to terms with my own mortality on a skydive a few years ago. No, it wasn’t a case of my chute malfunctioning, lol. I had got to the airfield and was contemplating what I was about to do in a couple of hours (jump out of a moving airplane) and was very nervous.
Suddenly the ‘samurai’ part of my mind took over and said to me “today is the day you die” and with it came a wash of total and absolute peace and calm. I believe some call it ‘spiritual harmony’. I smiled to myself, got up and thoroughly enjoyed myself from then on. And every time I think about death, that same feeling of calm and serenity pervades me. It is an absolute gift. I don’t know where it came from, but I’m very glad it did come. I suspect my modern Zen training was what fostered it in my mind.
So try to open your mind a bit, eh?

I’ve had three moments in my life where I remember thinking “Holy shit, it looks like this is it.” and braced myself. And then I felt that calm post-adrenaline relaxation and thinking “alright…here we go…”
The first time was going into shock with internal bleeding, at the beginning of a seizure in the emergency room, then coming to some time later being prodded with doctors and nurses hovering over me coming in and out of consciousness and wondering when I was going to go. I woke up later in some pain but a little surprised to be alive and very happy to see my boyfriend’s face. I remember during the ordeal being quite relaxed and accepting of the idea I wasn’t going to live.
The other two times were after getting hit by a car and losing consciousness on the pavement and getting trapped under a boat while water rafting (I don’t know how long, it felt like several minutes to me but only several seconds to my friends on the boat)
I won’t go so far as to say I don’t fear death at all but I definitely fear the death of my boyfriend more.
In fairness, the only three atheistic states I can think of are Stalinist Russia, Maoist China and Nazi Germany.
I’m not sure about Cambodia under the Khemer Rouge.
There are a lot of religious nutcases out there, but do people really believe they would be totally sane if they ceased being Christian, Muslim etc?
Many religious organisations have a lot to answer for, but so does virtually any body of people that accumulates too much power. Governments, vigilantes, large corporations etc.
The removal of religion is a simple solution in a world of mind boggling complexity. One cannot rely on the world for anything, save to surprise you.
