Where Do You Get Your Online News?

and my google reader

Here is a counterintuitive thought: The less news one pays attention to the more informed one will be. In fact, just reading the headlines on any RSS news feed is more informative than actually reading the articles they link to. It should only take one sentence to report any news artifact – who, what, where, when.

My biggest issue with news reporting is why we should care about some spot on the other side of the world that we have never been to. It’s information overload. It is my belief that the instant availability of information has turned us into a culture of busybodies.

The news these days is not about reporting facts but rather about swaying popular opinion.

Mainstream news is the worst and should be avoided altogether.[/quote]

I agree with the sentiment. There is a lot of shit that just isn’t news. Who went to rehab, what they were wearing, and the tons of other inane garbage.

Unless it is somehow relevant to my life, I would rather avoid it.

I follow a lot of business related news through a feed on my scottrade account. They do pretty well to sort the garbage out and have a high percentage of relevant, applicable content.

Good variety too.

FoxNews
RTnews.
CNN
TheBlaze

I would like to point out that The Blaze is Glenn Beck’s website, so start trashin.

It makes fun of itself. Plus, 3 of em are the same.

The entire organization does? I must say, that comes as surprise. Thank God they don’t air that part.

I am totally serious when I say this: one of my favorite sources of news is The Facebook. It only makes sense that the people we care about and consider our friends would provide us with information that might affect us to a larger degree than mainstream media would.

You are the biggest loser here, you do realise this right? No one else made any fucking comments about anyone elses news sources, and you make two dumb ass comments right in a row. Thanks for ruining my thread, You suck cock.

How are they the same? They may lean the same, but you will find stuff on one that the other does not have. That is like saying John Stewert’s website is the same as comedy central.

That was my point, same perspective on everything.

On an aside, I have to give you credit for cleaning up your posts. Much more readable.

I go to a lot of commentary websites, many of whuch incorporate news in that commentary,. so please bear this in mind if you follow up my choices.

Some Of the political sites I visit:

jihadwatch.org - news items about jihad plus commentary/info/links about Islam. Informative and valuable comments.

atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com - commentary and news

hotair.com -still new to this! i’ve read mainly commentary here.

bigjournalism, biggovernment - these are Breitbart sites. Google for full address.

pajamasmedia.com - news and commentary. Interesting stuff here to do with America. I find the comments here informative

sultanknish.blogspot.com - mainly commentary about news. Satire, various issues discussed.

http://blogs.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/timblair - Aussie news blog, lots of links to news and funny as hell.
Discusses lots of issues in America, including lately the Giffords shooting and many fun facts about al gore (known here as the Goracle/ ManBearPig). Americans comment here too.

heraldsun.com.au/andrewbolt. Conservative blog which tracks and links to actual news items unlike much of Aussie MSM, especially our national broadcaster. Otherwise primarily a discussion blog about news.

And a whole bunch more involving research/marketing news sometimes, business etc. Those are more random and In google on a need to know basis.

I suspect some of the methods people use to get to their sites would be interesting too.
I use Tnation as a news/discussion site, getting nutrition and exercise news here too, plus discussion and sometimes for contribution. It helps me evaluate other sources of health news I get.

And a whole lot more, but hope these help Vegita!

Sounds like twitter could be of some value to you as a news source. You can get all your news snapshots in 140 characters from all over the spectrum. Additionally, if you’re following the right people, you can get firsthand knowledge and not a reporter’s or network’s version.

I still haven’t set up a twitter account. Considering it now that I have finally arrived in the 21st Century with a smart phone. I do like the idea of tweeterers having to fit their entire post in a limited number of characters.

I wish most of the posters here would be a bit more concise.
