Whats The Best Movie of the Year so Far?

Yeah baby…another movie thread!

In terms of the best movies I have seen so far in theaters: In no order:

POTC
Finding Nemo
Seabiscuit

But Patricia is right…all the “good” or Oscar caliber movies won’t be released till Thanksgiving/Christmas time.

Now as far as ones I have rented:

Talk to Her…EXCELLENT movie. Great acting, great music, great directing…overall a great movie.

Spirted Away…won best animated film.

Adaptation…Spike Jonze is the man!

The Pianist…great performances all around.

Narc…why wasn’t Liotta nominated for best actor for this role?

Ahhhh 28 days… When I saw that movie I thought that it was soooo good. I thought it was better then night of the living dead and would become a clasic… then the second half happened. Once they get to that army base the whole movie gets soo dumb its like watching a different movie. How can you make half of a movie great and then just blow it like that? I was so discusted when it was over.

ArcaneCocaine don’t know if “HERO” the Jet-Li movie you are refering to is ever going to out in the theater anytime soon. It’s already out on DVD in Asain countries. My brother bought a DVD copy of “Hero” off the internet I thought it was a VCD copy but it looks like a DVD.

Most, amercians and Euopean may not understand the storyline of “HERO” it was a good movie but it also did’t make sense I had to get mom to tell me what the hell was going on half the time. My mom Absoultly loved it so did my dad. I liked too.

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean this weekend. It was awesome. Two strong, goodlooking leading men and a leading lady whose brains matched her looks. A few things I was expecting and a couple of interesting twists made for a great ride.

Xmen 2 was good too. Hope they have a third one in the works. Was it my imagination or is the actress that plays Jean Grey the same one that plays the female villian in GoldenEye?

Have to say I’m with everyone else whose impatiently awaiting the 3rd LOTR. It just can’t be released soon enough for me.

DareDevil was okay. Not being a comic book officianoto, is Electra really dead?

Anyone seen the 2nd Tomb Raider yet?

My order is…

#1 = 28 Days Later
#2 = Matrix: Reloaded
#3 = Pirates of the Caribean
#4 = X2

Sounds like I’m missing out by not having seen POTC. I’ll correct that.

I won’t, however, see Seabiscuit. Not only does it sound like a derogatory term for a sex act, but it’s ruined way too much ESPN viewing time. They advertised the hell out of it.

Matrix Reloaded was fucking fantastic!! Cant understand why people are giving it a hard time.

Xmen 2 was class. The opening scene in the White House was fantastic!!

28 days later. awesome movie. i consider it a classic already.
X2 and matrix get mentions, but i think LOTR will beat them all when it comes out this winter.

Punkin - yes, it was Famke Jansen. She was in Goldeneye, I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I forgot about X2, but it was great. They led into many more characters this one, and they did a great job with the current characters.

I can’t wait for X3.

Damn…I forgot about Narc. The director is from here in Sac and he’s supposed to be a really cool guy. I liked Narc a lot. It was a hell of a lot better than “Dark Blue” at telling a similar story. I’d put it in the same category as “Phonebooth” – movies that would have made really great episodes of an anthology TV series like “The Twilight Zone” or “Police Story.”

Favorite - Pirates of the Caribbean

Worst - Hulk

ok sorry i’m a little late on this one…

no special order but i like:

american wedding, just too funny!!
stiffler and finch do things you would never think that they would do.
matrix reloaded i liked
hulk was alright once he was the hulk anyway, swat, x2 great movie, bad boys 2. i’m sure i’m missing out on several others. oh yeah final destination was pretty cool. a lot more graphic but you could tell what was going to happend before it realy did pretty much through the whole movie.
the ones that i still want to see is 2 fast 2 furious, finding nemo, potc, and t3. theres another one that will be comming out in not too long called under world that seems like it will be pretty good as well…vampires vs. wharewolves.

JWright - Thanks for the confirmation. Always nice to know I’ve gone another day without completely losing my mind.

Man, I gotta get out more! The only movies I’ve seen this year are LOTR and about 3/4 of Finding Nemo (I had to cut out early when my son wouldn’t stop acting up). Note to self… see more movies.

Not sure if “City of God” came out this year or last, but it is still showing in Portland at the theatre.

If you haven’t seen it, I would recommend - from a first time director, shot in Brazil, about street violence outside the city of Rio, in a slum called the “city of god”

An amazing movie.

Also, the Pianist, Spellbound (agreeing with Goldberg), The Whale Rider (nice call Patricia), and a Mighty Wind.

Sergius, i’ll second that, 28 days later is the dogs bollocks. Bear in mind that it was a bit freakier for me seeing i saw it in central london right near alot of where it was filmed.

did bigprljamfan changer her name?

  1. X-men 2 (paid to see it twice)
  2. American Wedding
  3. Pirates of the Carribean
  4. Matrix pt 2
  5. Seabiscuit
  6. The Hulk
  7. 2Fast2Furious
  8. The Italian Job(piece of shit motherfucking movie cant believe I dropped $18 for me and my date to suffer through this motherfucking horrible durge of a flick.)

Those are the movies I’ve seen in recent memory.

I’ve yet to see SWAT or T-3 although they look like they might have potential.

BradTGIF,

Of course The Italian Job sucked.Edward Norton and Marky Mark??..nuff said.

I want to see S.W.A.T. but does that asshole Colin Farrell have to be in every movie this year? This is his 5th movie this year and it’s only August.
